Our cat Cole came to us from an abusive home and when he comes up on the couch and lays on you, it's time for pets. He asks for kisses and runs at the bathroom sink too. But if you just walked over and began petting without an invite, he may swat you. Guess you can thank the old woman who apparently hit him and then wanted him offed when she got tired of being clawed back....

Jump up on my want to be petted on the back and head, then it would lay on its back on my lap and want to be stroked on the belly. I always did, but very gently. But no matter how easy I did it somewhere along the line the cat would change its mind and dig its claws into my hand and try to bite my fingers. We called the cat Schizo.
