Cats tolerate name changes fairly well as long as it's associated with something positive. All our cats know their name and come to it, as long as they figure something good is involved. I recall "Toto" being a term of endearment somewhere, can't even recall what context but I like it.

On my birthday (a month or so after Masq passed) I told Don I thought we should drop into the SPCA shelter and fill out an application form in case a suitable dog might show up. All three of us had been looking online all over the island for a dog to adopt with no luck for weeks. We got a form and they told us to walk around the outer area and take a look at the dogs in their outdoor runs. As we neared the end of the circuit, a small dark brindle terrier pressed against the fence and started barking like mad at us, wiggling every ounce of her body.

The shelter staff had named her Delilah since the pit-bull type puppy she was picked up along with on the First Nations reserve nearby a few days earlier was being called Sampson. A year old, she was unspayed and not really trained but within three days she was ours and today it's like she's always been with us.

Not even sure what kind of name she had on the reserve (nobody even called about a missing dog) but we kept Delilah, she's dark, feisty and cunning, very intelligent and affectionate. I think it suits her. Plus we love her to pieces and Casey's life since we lost our Greyhound had been very quiet and glum. Now it's anything but!

pejorative: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%AAte_%C3%A0_Toto

I tried different names not only Talis, but also Toccata in honour of Bach's music and because she lets me touch her, unlike her brother...but names ending with a "a" don't sound right for her colour. Léto might be not that bad after all.

But now I'm wondering about Thisbé which would be a good match for Tibère.

I guess "Toto" will always be used anayway, whatever her official name becomes.

Of course in North America we think of Dorothy's little dog but I also think it works affectionately for a young animal.

Whatever she responds to!

I tried several names but they didn't work. Thisbé looks great on the paper (the perfect match for Tibère) but sounds snob and silly when I call her that.

She's a cutie. I think she looks like either a Léto, a Sâto or a Galatée:

Toto will remain a nickname for sure, anyway.
