I do agree that at some level, sociopaths do have an edge in certain careers. How they function outside of their work life is the hard part-my brother has lots of stories from his work life about the many brilliant coworkers who have been through multiple divorces, both marital and business because they are lacking a certain humanity at their inner core.

Though one coworker who I unfortunately am STILL stuck with sharing an office with, makes me wish I had a bit more of that vibe going. She's thoughtless about saying inappropriate things, tends to natter on when the other two of us want to concentrate and can be a bit of a bully at times. The book-keeper has more than once had to take her to task over it; I got news back in October that the store renovations were going to include a small office for me downstairs and so in between that and having long since learned to mostly tune her out, I have managed not to kill her but...

Sadly my office is all ready to go except for the fact that the new printer has to be installed by our IT contractor and he's yet to make it to the store. Since I spend all my time doing paperwork now (the store's cashup and all receiving of stock into the computer system), I go through at least a ream of paper a week and cannot function without a printer. So I continue to be "deaf" sometimes and tell myself that it's only a matter of time till she's far more than an arm's length away for most of my work day.
