Subject: That was one of the neatest FRINGE episodes ever.

Anytime you have a Monty Python-esque cartoon in the middles of a show it has to be good.

Walter can only remember Astrid's name after he drops acid.

The Happy Wanderer
----------------------------
I love to go a-wandering,
Along the mountain track,
And as I go, I love to sing,
My knapsack on my back.

Chorus:
Val-deri,Val-dera,
Val-deri,
Val-dera-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Val-deri,Val-dera.
My knapsack on my back.

I love to wander by the stream
That dances in the sun,
So joyously it calls to me,
"Come! Join my happy song!"

I wave my hat to all I meet,
And they wave back to me,
And blackbirds call so loud and sweet
From ev'ry green wood tree.

High overhead, the skylarks wing,
They never rest at home
But just like me, they love to sing,
As o'er the world we roam.

Oh, may I go a-wandering
Until the day I die!
Oh, may I always laugh and sing,
Beneath God's clear blue sky!
-----------------------------------

The Green Fairy seems to represent Walter’s guide along his journey and perhaps his inner child-like curiosity. the Green and Red Fairies meet at the Casimir Window is somewhat akin to the Green-Green-Green-Red motif in FRINGE. It could possibly foreshadow the Redverse resurgence in the S5 endgame.

Carla Warren perhaps represents the “old” Walter (TWTW - The Walter That Was). The Lab fire was likely caused when Carla came to the Lab to try and burn Walter’s works, and the fire got out of hand. Or it may be that Walter trying to stop her is what caused the fire to spread to her. She is representative of Walter’s ego, ambition, brilliance, and imagination. She even says as much when they are in the cab at “Manhattan”, where she says that like the journal, she represents “all of the things he’s trying to keep buried”, which would include his former intellect (the journal), and the consequences of his unchecked hubris (Carla and her death).

Nina, on the other hand, acts as Walter’s voice of reason, countering Carla’s remarks. As a side note, it's funny how Carla, the Devil on Walter's shoulder, is dressed white, while the Angelic Nina is in black.

The Emerald City is an evident Wizard of Oz reference; but it may also be representative of Hy-Brasil (in the comic) which Walter is said to have developed as a Shangri-la for mankind. It may also be that Donald is meant to represent the Man Behind the Curtain, as he was an individual Walter doesn’t remember, but who had a significant role in shaping events.

Sam Weiss was still around in this timeline - the date of his birth 27 March 1969, was the date of the actor's real birth. While he’s no longer around, at least he went out fighting, taking out Observers and Loyalists. I wonder if we’ll get some background on what Sam’s backstory is in the S4-S5 timeline, and how he got involved with Donald. My personal thinking is that Donald may be Sam's younger brother.

In the Monty Python-esque sequence, Walter's three companions represent Olivia - the Frog (body comes from a pipe labelled 'O', Astrid - the Black Terrier from an 'A'. and evidently Peter - the Seahorse (his uncle Robert Bishop (Bischoff) was known as the Seahorse for his swimming).

Walter fights himself as a knight (TWTW?) for the key to his memory in order to get the password - black umbrella. Olivia as the Frog helps him defeat the Knight TWTW - forshadowing something Olivia may do for Walter in the future?

More? Yeah, of course, but I grow tired...
