Dang.... I really didn't expect him to die.
Raylan sure has mixed feelings about his father. He acts like he doesn't, but Arlo's statements to Raylan have gone from "eat shit," to his last "kiss my ass," and I think it hurt Raylan more than he's letting on.
Boyd turns table on the bigwig "criminals" by being the "outlaw." Gets Detroit to kill of those on Boyd's hit-list. Lucky for him though that Raylan came along. I don't think Boyd even had one inkling that the cop that was going to tale him in was the 'button-man' for Detroit.
Now Boyd is sure that he and Ava have some smooth sailng ahead. And that he has turned the tables on Theo Tonen, the Detroit gang, and Wynn Duffy's Dixie Mafia. But Johnny is bribing Colt for $20,000 and the sheriff is pressing Ellen May on what she and Ava did. (And Drew Thompson's ex-wife used to look like Ava Gardner?) On top of all that Colt is going off on his own knocking off his drug dealer - which may get Boyd in further trouble with the Duffy's crew (and Colt kills so sloppily, how is it that the law would not in the future catch up with him?).

He was hurting, and "button-man" from Detroit paid for it (it was so obvious in the way he shot him). You're right about Boyd being lucky. If it hadn't been for Raylan, he would be dead now.
So this season, Raylan shot men in bar.
It seems that they are providing more and more clues about Shelby being Drew Thompson (Jim Beaver is fantastic btw). Red herring?
Raylan in the elevator broke my heart. I needed a good cry anyway.

But Boyd was a johnny-come-lately to Harlan. What if Boyd is Drew Thompson?
Raylan in the elevator was a heartbreaker. And I expect his wrath in the next episode will lead to some things he should not do (I've seen the teaser for next week).

Boyd is way too young! Drew is supposed to be an older man.
Shelby's age fits in, and what he told Ellen May (apparently it's May, not Mae)about pretending, along with Jim Beaver's acting when they mentioned Eve, and the fact that Shelby was checking Drew's file several episodes ago...clues have been piling up, but I hope the Shelby thing is just misdirecting, because it has become so obvious (they even had the hitman provide meta-irony saying that he didn't know Shelby!)that any big reveal in 2 episodes would feel like bad writing.
