Subject: I'm back mostly.....

My house got struck by lightning. I mean a full on bolt that sounded like the end of the world. I felt the concussion and was nausous for some time after the strike.

Anyway it fried my modem and evidently screwed over my wireless router as well. I got a new modem rather fast, but the routers in this town are priced too damn high. Now I have the fun of reinstalling a router and going through the finagling to re-install my printer on that new network.

The lightning bolt from hell also has severely messsed up my Denon surround sound AM/FM/TV receiver. Thankfully it is still allowing pass through of a signal. The receiver will allow sound to be played in stereo so my two front speakers have output, but the center voice channel just isn't there. I turned the TV on the day after the strike and wondered why I wasn't hearing the Geico lizard speak on a commercial. I guess it is because the output is in stereo but the input is in surround, so center-channel voices are dropped for the most part. I guess I need a new receiver if I'm going to go back to enjoying FRINGE in surround sound. I hope the center channel speaker isn't blown.

The house is ok. It's amazing the way the receiver got messed up, it must have to be just because the it was a proximity lightning hit. Nothing on the same surge protector was damaged. And the surge protector itself is ok. It's almost as if an electro-magnetic field wiped some of the programming off the receiver. And it won't display a menu, so I cannot figure it out through that. I guess that means a new Denon.

It's just amazing there was no tree hit by lightning near the house. A few branches fell out of one tree, but they appear to be old and rotten.

Oh well...
...

*HUGS*

So happy nothing majorly wrong but it sounds like you more or less had your own mini EMP go off. Wow! Do those electronics get covered by your house insurance?

We just got home a couple of hours ago. Probably the most relaxing two weeks we've ever had on vacation. Pics later!

I tried them yesterday, but I guess they don't work on Saturday. I'll try them again on Monday. The modem and router are about $100 each, but the Denon receiver retails for $800 - at least it did back in 2009 when I bought it. Though I think I got it for just less than $600. So I might not make the watchamacallit.... what do you call it?

I had to call AT&T and reset my modem password for some strange reason this morning to connect to the Internet. I guess the new Motorola modem didn't like using the old Westell modem password. But it worked for Friday and Saturday, so??
