Those water bombers are freaking huge. The other one was on land at this point on time, perhaps for servicing?? We've had a very quiet forest fire season so far but the last time these two passed overhead, they were heading for California, to fight wildfires down there. A pretty awesome sight, to be sure.

Port Alberni is a mill town that mostly lives on the tourism and sport fishing industry now. There are some small logging concerns but the pulp mill just off the center of town has been on shutdown for quite a while now. Makes for some tough economic times, they are very lucky that they are the service center for the Pacific Rim Park nearby. We stayed there because Tofino and the beaches are a reasonably short drive away-getting into the campground we like at Mackenzie Beach is pretty near impossible. We did walk Wikkinnish Beach one day but no pics-heavy mist moved in and we got pretty soaked, ate a picnic lunch in the truck and headed back afterwards
