Subject: It seems they are turning the Star Trek franchise into comic book fodder....
In reply to: AurraSing 's message, "The teaser is up for the New Trek movie. Is Gary Mitchell back?" on Thursday, December 06, 10:35:51am

Despite it being Sci-Fi it always seemed more grounded than that. Everything seems has to be near apocalyptical anymore. Whatever happened to discovering new planets, new secrets, new peoples, new science? The movies have taken a step away from what Star Trek as a series, in whatever form, generally had as a core premise.

I suppose you could lay the blame for this mindset at the feet of every franchise that has succeeded over the past 15 years or so by catering to the crowd that likes it's action at a frenetic pace. On the other hand, the first movie did a great job at reintroducing characters we thought we knew and managed to tell a pretty good story at the same time. Now I did have issues with the antagonist of that one, kinda hoping Benedict's character is written much better but then again Bana never does much for me as an actor anyhow.

Guess we'll find out in May!

(oh and I had seen the Japanese trailer after I posted the American one. Debating with myself now about not looking at any more trailers so I can go into this one relatively unspoiled...)
