Subject: And he didn't even get the Best Actor award in France!

He received a Bafta and a Oscar but, over here, they gave the César to a black actor for a film I didn't see (a comedy I was sure I wouldn't like) but that was a huge success in France.

That said, even though I liked The Artist and have always considered Dujardin to be rather good, I wouldn't have given him the César either for there was a brilliant actor (Olivier Gourmet)who was simply amazing in another great French film this year(L'Exercice de l'Etat), on the list of nominees. I doubt Olivier Gourmet would ever have a livejournal page like that, though...

It was interesting to listen to critics leading up to the Oscars when they were comparing Jean and George's performances in their respective movies. I think Don put it best when he said that no matter what movie he's seen Mr. Clooney in, he still sees the actor and not the character. From the bits of Jean's other movies that I have watched online, I don't think that's an issue and might be one of the big reasons why he walked away with the Oscar in LA the other night. Even if I never see him in another film, I'll still look back happily at his work in "The Artist".

Just hoping my mom and sis get the chance to see it-my sis is very busy with a reno job in her basement so they've not been out very much...I know they both would enjoy this movie a lot.

Personally, I didn't think he was very good in The Descendants, and the film itself is pretty thin btw, but it isn't just that part, George is charming but he isn't that good an actor. Actually, I think he's a better film maker.

Gary Oldman, on the other hand, was EXCELLENT in the great Tailor, Tinker, Soldier, Spy...
