Subject: Joss Whedon answers that all important Buffy vs Black Widow question...

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/popcandy/post/2012/04/exclusive-joss-whedon-answers-my-qs--now-he-wants-yours/1#.T4RKYJlYs9I

It's only April, but so far Joss Whedon is having a pretty big year.

Last week marked the release of Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope, which Whedon wrote and produced with director Morgan Spurlock. On April 13 we can see another Whedon flick, the suspenseful Cabin in the Woods, when it lands in theaters.

Of course, all of this is leading up to the director's must-see blockbuster of the year, The Avengers (out May 4).

Today at 2:30 p.m. ET, Whedon will answer fans' questions during a live AMA ("Ask Me Anything") session on Reddit. Yesterday I managed to snag him via e-mail to answer a few Q's of my own:

Last weekend Comic-Con Episode IV became available on demand. Can you describe what your first experience at Comic-Con was like?

I was 10. Bought Howard the Duck #1. Saw John Buscema lecture on drawing. Got Stan Lee's autograph. Top THAT, first bumbling sexual experience!

What are some comics/graphic novels you're into these days?

I eat The Walking Dead like its made of brains. Can't even watch the show, I love the book so much.

Your pal Felicia Day just launched the web channel Geek & Sundry. Have you checked it out yet? Do you watch any web series?

I watch everything Felicia does. Not always in a timely fashion, but … I made Avengers! What's YOUR excuse?

Tell us a surprising fact about an Avengers cast member.

Chris Hemsworth is actually a man.

In a fight between Buffy and Black Widow, who do you think would win?

Buffy would go easy at first, but as soon as Natasha popped her with a Widow Sting, she'd start bringing some slayer brawn to the fray. Natasha's fast, but a couple of good connects and she's wobbling, possibly something broken -- she whips out her glock and now Buffy's dodging -- right where Natasha wants her. Natasha shoots the cable holding the steel barrels and they tumble onto Buffy, nearly burying her -- Buffy just arcs out of the way, grabbing the splintered cable and swinging directly onto Natasha, a bullet grazing her cheek as her feet land hard on the Russian's shoulders, sending her back flat -- crack! -- on the floor, Buffy wrenching the gun away and tossing it, fist ready for the final strike. Natasha, struggling to stay conscious, says the fight's over. Buffy agrees, but Natasha explains: She poisoned Buffy hours ago. That waitress that brought her salad …? Natasha smiles. The poison is dormant -- 'til it's activated by adrenaline. Buffy's eyes narrow. "Too bad I didn't use any." Wham! Natasha's out for the count, and Buffy's heading -- slowly -- to Willow for a mystical cleanse.

That'd be my first guess.

[> And Joss Whedon's answers from his Reddit Q&A.... -- Lij, Tuesday, April 10, 10:46:13pm (adsl-99-186-237-233.dsl.bltnin.sbcglobal.net/99.186.237.233)

Ones that struck me....
----------------
Season six of Angel would have kicked all manner of ass. And Illyria would have manifested as Fred often enough to become very confused about her identity.

And now I'm sad again.

----------------
Favorite characters? Jeez. Spike, Andrew, Illyria, River, Captain Hammer, Loki, the Cheese Man... hell, I love them all, or I wouldn't write them. But I tend to the left of center.

The hardest was always Angel. How to make a decent, handsome, stalwart hero interesting -- tough. Angelus, on the other hand...

----------------

QUESTION: I'm sure that killing off a character you've invested a lot of time in can be tough. Have you ever found that doing this to a particular character has had a profound emotional affect on you? Who was the toughest kill?

ANSWER: I actually find it refreshing... delightful.... vaguely arousing....

Actually, I'm, no offense, very tired of being labelled as "the guy who kills people". Shakespeare (he's this hot new writer) does it way more than me, and everyone's all excited about how he, as it were, holds a mirror up to nature, while I'm like the Jason Voorhees of the writing community. Unfair.

Also, probably Buffy's Mom.

Also, hope nobody really thinks "Angel" was worth another season. It was getting very bad at the end, "Firefly" or no "Firefly". Actors were sleepwalking through their roles, etc, etc.

It seems that Joss had some good ideas for a 6th (thinking especially of Illyria). But yeah, it was getting to be rather formulaic.
