It's okay, Chani. I didn't get most of it either.

There were so many things I didn't have a baseline knowledege of, and Ardee had to explain them to me (after the movie of course. Can't stand a lot of talkers during a show).

I saw it as an action movie geared toward those who know and love their comic book heroes (which is big these days).
I'm not one of those who fit into the demographic but I enjoyed Robert Downey Jr.'s performance and I thought that the guy who played the Hulk did a great job.
I remember how much my dad used to LOVE the Hulk, so it made me happy to see they did a good job with that character. He would have been very happy.

To me...the last scene with all of them at the Shawarma restaurant brought it all together for why I've always been partial to Joss.
Made me laugh, even though a word was never spoken.

It's nice to see you again! How are you doing? :- )

RDJ is always a treat on screen, but even his charming self doesn't make up for 2.5 hours!

Agreed.

And, I'm great, thanks.

I told Ardee it really wasn't the kind of movie I'd go to see. I went because he wanted to see it and because of Joss.

For me, there was a bit of boredom with the *yawn* usual action scenes.
This is part of why the movie is such a blockbuster, I'm sure. It appeals to a great many moviegoers and got them in the seats. (Unlike Serenity...*sniff*)
I'm not putting down those who love a superhero or two...It's just not the kind of movie I generally go for.

Which is why I'm a bit surprised I enjoyed movies like Batman Begins and Ironman as much as I did.
Although, thinking about it...I guess it's because they explored the character's backstory and relationships.
I guess I like to see what makes a character tick.
Just like people.

I suppose I need a little more reality mixed into my fantasy. *snort*

I even enjoyed the second one with Bale, and will probably see the next one. I am not a fan of superheroes but those films worked, they were gripping (and there's Gary Oldman and Michael Caine!)and highly entertaining.

I'm sad to say this but they are just better movies than The Avengers.

I went and saw it because I was curious but I didn't find it entertaining. I found the opening sequence before the title quite terrible and afterwards it was a mixed bag of endless boring moments and funny lines.. Maybe only 30 minutes out of 150 were really fun for me.

I think it's better for Joss not to have a big budget to play with.

Yeah Serenity *sniff*

Iron Man 1 and 2, Thor, Hulks 1 or 2 and Captain America. At least that way you would know why it was so hard to get these heroes together in the first place. I was not a huge fan of the Avengers comic but I understand the mythos behind it and why Joss was going to have to play by Marvel's "rules" if he wanted to get his hands on these characters. This movie did a really good job of not being totally about the action; there was some good moments of inside joke humour and times when you saw characters change before your eyes...never thought that Cap would question authority or that Tony would learn to cooperate the way he did in this one. Or that watching the Hulk doing his thing would not induce cringing like the last two attempts did. I think these are just some of the reasons why fanboys and fangirls have helped make this movie so popular.

Oh well, I would never expect most of my coworkers or even most of my family to be interested in this movie. Like you, they are not the demographic that it's aimed at. And it's not the same sort of movie as the latter day Batman movies, which are centered around the Dark Knight stories, more of an angst trip than anything else and while very popular, are much darker than the Marvel milieu tends to ever be.

Plus being the more-or-less seventh movie in a loosely arranged group of flics around the characters who will form the Avengers, it's hard expecting non-fans to go in there and get everything. Hell, I only watched "Captain America" because I knew that he was more or less going to be the team leader in Joss's movie and I needed to see how they treated his character in order to appreciate how Joss would handle it. He's a LOT less boring but still the kind of guy who would make Agent Coulson kind of bashful...that's Joss for you!!
