Subject: I think I may have been mean to someone online...

It's quite silly but I suddenly feel bad about it so I need your take on this.

Yesterday I did a tv meme on Live Journal and wrote this about for the last question:

"Shows I watched and loved that aren't mentioned on this list because I started them in another year

Breaking Bad which might be the best tv show I have EVER seen. Close to perfection in every department that matters to me, that is writing, cinematography, acting, dark humour, creativity."

Later I saw that someone from my "friend list" also did the meme so I read her entry and noticed that she had obviously read mine for she kept a few words I had written when she copied and pasted the whole thing (it happens when you do a meme). The person in question dislikes Breaking Bad and keeps saying so on LJ (which is probably the reason I got annoyed by what I'm about to tell you). For the last question here is what she answered:

"The Good Wife which might be the best tv show I have EVER seen. Close to perfection in every department that matters to me, that is writing, cinematography, acting, dark humour, creativity."

She copied and pasted my summing up the reason I loved Breaking Bad and used it for TGW!

So....I just couldn't help and went on her Dreamwidth journal and left this comment:

Do you really think that The Good Wife "might be the best tv show I have EVER seen. Close to perfection in every department that matters to me, that is writing, cinematography, acting, dark humour, creativity." or did you simply copy and paste what I wrote about Breaking Bad by accident?

I'm not being snarky, just curious, because as much as I like TGW I wouldn't call it close to perfection in terms of cinematography or dark humour for instance...

What do you think? Was I wrong to leave such comment? Should I delete it before she sees it? That said, she might have already seen it even though she didn't reply...

Her using my words irritated me because it was a lazy thing to do, but also because I read it as a provocation against Breaking Bad, something petty from someone who resents the show's critical acclaim. But now I feel that I was petty (and actually snarking in spite of saying I was not)myself when leaving my comment.

Or maybe that was just the teacher in me taking charge and wanting her to acknowledge "her fault".

Perhaps I just should be flattered that someone, whose English is the native tongue and who claims to have studied English literature, would want to borrow my clumsy words.

This virtul world, it doesn't always bring out the best in ourselves, does it?

It is possible that in copying you she did not so have a pang of conscious.

I wouldn't let it bother you, unless her friendship is uber-important to you.

Do not delete your comment, it is probably already too late and they have an email about it.

I wouldn't call it friendship but I don't like hurting people. The person in question is tactless and doesn't have a lot of social skills, says that she's been bullied at work.

I thought of deleting my comment, as a damage control kind of thing, so other people wouldn't see it. The thing with public places like online journals is that it's also humilating when you got slapped in the face, it's adding insult to injury.

Sorry trésor for not listening to your advice, but I will go to the library with a lighter heart now.

And it's probably not my conscious talking but my pride telling me that I'm better than that!

But you have to follow your heart and I could see your heart was leaning to deleting it.

And that is the best you could do. That was fine.

I would never use someone's wording in the manner she did without at least mentioning the original author's name, ie ""Much in the same way that Chani wrote "Breaking Bad which might be the best tv show I have EVER seen. Close to perfection in every department that matters to me, that is writing, cinematography, acting, dark humour, creativity..", I feel the same way about The Good Wife"".

I think she deserved the snark. I would have done it to her.

But it's your choice in the end, isn't it?

*hugs*

but I didn't like the idea of reacting like that for something so futile.

BTW I just saw that she had posted on LJ again so I checked to see if she had edited her previous post and rephrased her answer but she didn't so either she didn't get any email about my comment and didn't actually see it or she just doesn't care...
