[> I have mixed feelings about "The End of all Things" -- Chani, Saturday, February 25, 08:12:33am (81-65-157-129.rev.numericable.fr/81.65.157.129)

I really liked the palimpsest metaphor, with Olivia basically trying to do to herself what Peter was doing with the video, but I found lots of things telegraphed or déjà-vu in the episode (and I don't mean the light box): the second they started torturing the Nina with Olivia it was obvious it was a trick, thy were putting on a show, and we were right to think that she was the evil one.

The only twist that really worked was the fact that Olivia figured it out early enough and tricked them back, knowing this wasn't her Nina (which kinda echoes the "You aren't my Olivia" from Peter!)and telling her about her connection to Peter so they would bring Peter and Olivia could turn into Carrie mode.

Also I didn't like the Peter/Observer scene much. I found it cheesy, not only the set with pictures of The Big Bang and baby Henry (unless it was a tribute to 2001 a Space Odyssey!)but also September's talk about how important that Peter was paired up with the proper Olivia aka Blue Olivia instead of AltLiv, something btw that Peter obviously misinterpreted as "he must go back to His Olivia and break up with AmberOlivia".

I am not anti-romantic ships per se (I am guilty of being a Spuffy and a Desmond/Penny shipper after all), but the show is becoming more and more about this Peter/Olivia stuff and, therefore, more and more conventional in terms of tv show, and I think it might be losing "its soul" in the process.

Relationships have always been there but the show has shifted from the Father/Son ship that was the "core ship" of the series during the two first seasons to the romantic ship overshadowing the theme of filiation or even the theme of "what makes us human"(through the storylines of the cortexiphan kids, the freaks of the week and the shapeshifters). I hope I'm wrong but I fear this is going to become the predominant arc now, with the father/son thing and the metaphysical matters remaining only an echo on the show (the mention of baby Henry and Peter's subsequent reaction bien one of them), or an a lingering thought.

[> Did you see the Tardis? -- Lij, Saturday, February 25, 07:44:18pm (adsl-99-42-48-14.dsl.bltnin.sbcglobal.net/99.42.48.14)

Supposedly there is a Tardis in the scene showing universe with Peter and September. I can't find it. But I bet you saw the Observer(s).

I had it picked out that Nina with Olivia was the Redverse Ninot even before I saw the show. I had it figured out even before that teaser that attempted to fool people was put out. That teaser though was just too blatant to be truthful.

I'm a little pissed off about Peter's behavior as well. He keeps misinterpreting the clues. And now seems dead-set on "getting back" to that place that doesn't even exist anymore. He should have realized that September gave him the key, "go home," was meant to re-unite him with that Olivia he is meant to be with. He should realize that September's appearance to Olivia would be pointing at her as his real Olivia as well.

So I have come up with the idea that the real "BIG BAD" of this season is not David Robert Jones but Peter! I think it's Buffy seasons 5-6 all over again. Peter in S3/early S4 was Buffy in S5/early S6. Peter in late S4 is Willow in late S6. David Robert Jones and his AltBroyles/Ninot pair is the Troika. Peter is going to mount the machine again and attempt to find his Olivia and in doing so put the world (universes) at risk. Olivia as "crow-bar" will pry him out of it and save the world. LOL!!

Well, it is the progression that the son must leave the father and cleave to a new love. It's the way of the world. But we are now seeing the father/son dynamic getting in the way of Peter's acceptance of Olivia. Walter is the one who has been berating Peter for 'imprinting' Olivia, via cortexiphan, with his own memories. Peter in that respect is very much still clinging to his father(-figure), Walter. In short we are seeing what happens when such a love triangle occurs. I think that, rather than "the romantic ship overshadowing the theme of filiation," it is indeed highlighting the father-son dynamic; however, one which has changed. That relationship has evolved or matured since Peter took responsibility for all his actions (it was highlighted in the comic) and made his decision within the machine. That change is just doing so in a way which we now see as going down the wrong road as per Olivia. Peter is still very much putting his faith in his father, in Walter, rather than his own heart.
