This last episode wasn't as good as the previous one, it felt rushed or disjointed in places and sort of uneven, with moments that worked and were rather touching(Olivia and Lincoln at the diner, the elevator scenes...) and moments that did not work(the Nina storyline and her relationship with Olivia look forced), but again the case of the week echoed Peter's situation and I'm really feeling sorry for him.

He's so sure that this is an alternate dimension, that this Olivia isn't his and that he still has somewhere to go back to.

He's desperate to get to the place where things used to be (as Edmund was in the previous episode) or, in other words, to fix his current situation so things would be the way they should be, that is him being connected to the people he loves, him being seen and recognized by them...just like Eugene.

But if anything else, the cases of the week pointed out that both Edmund and Eugene were wrong and that trying to fix things would cause deaths and disaster. Spike would have called it the Yoko Factor of course! ;- )
BTW I also couldn't not think of the invisible girl in Buffy.

So every case of the week becomes a cautionary tale, except that Peter doesn't get to see them the way the audience does. Will Peter acknowledge the fact that things have changed and there's no way back? I hope so.

Above all, I hope that the writers won't chicken out. Looks like some fans are like Peter, they don't consider this Olivia and this Walter to be theirs, they 'ship Peter/Olivia and don't want to move on from the previous two dimensions of season 1-3 to this new orange set of two dimensions.

That said, I'm a bit worried about the labyrinth and the mice thing. It seems that Walter believes that John will be ok, and that John and Yoko should be together. Walter's 'shipping heart does bother me.

If Peter represents a confused audience, who Walter stands for?

This season is definitely super meta!

PS I disagree with Peter's choice of new spectacles for Lincoln.

Overall, I think this episode was meant as a setup for the next one, which was supposed to be the last show this fall but we won't see until January now (cause of the World Series).

Wallflower continued the theme that science cannot answer most all those questions having to do with human emotion. Something that Peter has yet to come to terms with. And like I said a number of his backers would have that be the case. So I guess they are just going to discount the character development of Olivia, Walter, Lincoln and the rest as irrelavent this season. Much as you have said.

Such thinking that Peter has to 'get back' is pure foolishness if you ask me. And I am as miffed at Peter about that way of thinking as I am from his overt backers in the audience.

Walter is just Walter?

If you don't like his new glasses wait to you see Lincoln in the next ep!

Yeah and I don't like that storyline much.

Evil Nina?

It's all a part of the restatement of the first season and a certain man who will show up back on the show probably as the head of a ZFT group and the new shapeshifters.

In that respect we had Massive Dynamic or their subsidiaries involved in:

1) NINA: (to a room full of employees) "Nanotechnology -- the bloom is not off the rose. Because of the far-ranging claims that have been made about potential applications of nanotechnology, a number of serious concerns have been raised about how this will affect our society if realized and what actions, if any are deemed appropriate, might be needed to mitigate these risks. This is not Massive Dynamic's concern. We create technology. How it is used is not our concern. We just own the patents." Even if Nina is not directly involved it appears that through the research of Massive Dynamic she is the purveyor of FRINGE science which is being used by possible ZFT Terrorists.

2) FRINGE Glyph Codes have read: STILL ALIVE DAVID = David Robert Jones!

3) Doctor Malcolm Truss' work in cellular replication at Massive Dynamic. The research was meant to help patients with extensive tissue damage -- burn victims, cancer patients, amputees. It copied the genetic data of the healthy cells of the patient and used it to replace the damaged ones. But it was also at the heart of the neo-shapeshifter's ability to switch personas. Nadine Park said that her "grafts were based on your research." Although, William Bell shut the project down, citing ethical concerns, did Nina continue the work? Bell shut down Truss' project. And all he could say was, "Some things are not ours to tamper with. Some things... are God's." So was William Bell an ethical control on Nina Sharp?

4) Baby Boy Bryant was born 26 July 1989 and his supposed death was a ruse to cover the experimentation on him by Cyprox. Cyprox, Inc. was a subsidiary of a larger company called Kelvin Genetics and Kelvin Genetics became Massive Dynamic. The nature of the Experiment 69545's cellular abnormality allowed Chromatophores to be implanted into his system, making him able to blend into his surroundings, thus making him a perfect spy or soldier. So was Eugene also an experiment in making a shape-shifter. That tech might be used in perfecting a shapeshifter or perhaps giving shapeshifters the ability to also become invisible. Will this trait come to be seen in the new shapeshifters now that Truss' cellular replication has been perfected?

5) Finally, Nina Sharp's goons injecting Cortexiphan into the base of Olivia's brain, which appears to be the cause of her continuing migraine headaches. In the prior timelines (the paradox) David Robert Jones [DRG] knew about Olivia's Cortexiphan powers and tested them. DRG also had Nina Sharp shot to steal the energy cell in her arm. But in the S4 timeline has Nina replicated that energy cell and sold it to whoever [DRG - ZFT] would use it? Is this new - red Cortexiphan a refinement of the drug?

About Cortexiphan:

William Bell theorized that at birth, the human mind is infinitely capable, but each force that it encounters (social, physical, intellectual) begins a process he called "limitation" - a diminishing of that potential. Cortexiphan was designed in hopes of limiting this "limitation", preventing the natural shrinking of brainpower, resulting in people with increased mental ability. Due to the fact that Cortexiphan only prevented the limitation of the mind's potential rather than reversing it, it had to be administered to young children (whose potential had not yet been limited) in order to produce any results.

Walter Bishop stated that Cortexiphan works by enhancing people's abilities of perception. While reality is that way we perceive the world around us, by changing our perception, we can change our reality. However, while normal people can only change their perception, Cortexiphan-positives can change other people's perceptions as well, thus possibly changing reality. This may come to be important later in determining the denoument of the show.

Cortexiphan-positives must be activated in order to use their abilities. David Robert Jones used the first test of the evaluation system to try and activate Olivia Dunham and did so activate her when she was forced to turn off the bomb by shutting down the lights. But if DRG and Olivia have not crossed paths in the S4 timeline has Olivia been activated? This may have to do with her emotional situation. While having migraines (from Nina's administration of Cortexiphan?) Olivia is emotionally detached even in her work.

Within the paradox an 'Experimental Campus' was maintained by Massive Dynamic, for the purpose of housing previous Cortexiphan test subjects. Massive Dynamic has been developing a series of experiments to help the test subjects "repurpose" their abilities. Does this also exist in the S4 timeline?

All in all these are a number of questions which will hopefully become tied up in S4.

Massive Dynamic was indeed kina "evil" from day one so the storyline should work indeed but so far this eNina doesn't work for me.

Walternate rang truer for instance. Perhaps it's because John Noble is a better actor, but I guess it's a matter of writing too.
