Subject: Silence

Most evenings, we load up the dogs into the truck after supper and drive about twelve minutes to the fish hatchery just north of here. It's on the south side of the river and the fifty or so minutes it takes us to walk the forested. looping trail around the perimeter is the perfect balm for my soul or whatever within me craves the peaceful nature of the woods. Tonight's moment was watching a river otter pause on his journey along the waterways to look at us and the dogs; curiosity made him come back for a second look and then we watched as a trail of tiny bubbles betrayed his swift retreat towards the opposite shore of the pond.
