Genie Francis and Ted McGinley -- AS, Friday, August 19, 12:03:11am (d207-216-56-8.bchsia.telus.net/207.216.56.8)
Both seem pretty nice....I'm no soap fan but even I remember the days of Luke and Laura. I've not seen much of Ted's work since "Married with Children" but he still looks pretty good.
The film crew basically took over the heart of our downtown core for two days. Fake parades, fake books and a big American flag draped over the front of the post office to hide the Can Post logo, among other things.
They ended up asking to use our off-street parking lot for their production tent as they shot some scenes in the back lot of the building next to us. Working around our deliveries and the busy electricians installing new lighting in our store, staffers had fun sitting out on the loading dock and quietly watching the action on their breaks. Considering that the new Superman movie is holding open casting calls for extras in Nanaimo and Ucluelet this weekend, Hollywood North is far from dead.
Sadly, probably won't be able to watch any of the movie here, we don't get the Hallmark channel. Oh well.....

The books are fake. -- AS, Friday, August 19, 07:41:14am (d207-216-56-8.bchsia.telus.net/207.216.56.8)
The film crew took over the wee bookstore as part of the movie must be dealing with a book Genie Francis' character has written. I was walking about town on Monday picking up last minute gifts for my mom and was going to stop in to pick up a card but the shop was "closed" while they set things up for the shoot. This store is well known for their elaborate window dressings so the rather plain book display caught my eye and I realised that they were getting ready for the next days action....

The open casting call for Superman this weekend is looking primarily for logger types and kids, wonder if anyone local is more or less inspired to try out after watching this production team the past couple of days. Have to say that being very patient really helps since what was supposed to be about a days worth of shooting exteriors turned into two days ....perfect weather helped but it's a lot of hurry up and wait!

It's funny because my first idea was that the book's cover was fake and it was sone of those photoshopped thing, but then the reflection of the cover's image made me think I was wrong.

I'm going to see what my sister makes of it next. -- AS, Friday, August 19, 08:44:26am (d207-216-56-8.bchsia.telus.net/207.216.56.8)
Like me, she finds it amusing how our little downtown that is so frozen in time (era 1910-1930, we have an old brick hotel with swastikas as good luck symbols because it predates WW II) often doubles as small town America in film productions.
