Oh well. I have never witnessed the unfamous prayers in the street at La Goutte d'Or myself, but it's true that it happens and there's has been controversies about it. Yes it's illegal and shouldn't be tolerated.

Now it concerns very few people in a small area and most citizens aren't aware of the problem. That reports tends to be biased and distorts reality, focusing only on fundamentalists people. Most Muslim women don't wear neither burqa nor veil in France and the Imam of the Grand Mosque of Paris is totally against such behaviours for instance.

If you walk the streets you can't guess what religion people have or have not...

But it's true that there's a fundamentalist movement (Salafism mostly)at work, and it's true that they have a political agenda (and receive money from abroad)and struggle against the usual "French Islam" to impose views that are incompatible with our Republic.

The problem of course is that the whole thing is also used by the far right, and Marine Lepen may get many voters because of the issue, either because they are directly bothered by fundamentalist behaviours in certain area or because they are ignorant but frightened by such reports. The anti-Islam demonstration that is showed in the report looked very far-right(the fists, the flags).

Unfortunately, a number of people from the American far right are convinced that Paris (and France) is being overrun by Muslims. And they use things like that as evidence for it.
