Ah, Oscar time. The time of the year when the stars shine their brightest. And so it is, that Wicker Park's favorite film buff, A. Daniel Curtindolph, makes his yearly predictions on who's gonna win in each catagory, as well as his comentary on the films of the past year. And so:

Animated motion picture: I want "Spirited Away" to win, but seeing as the judges are super-patriotic bastards who wouldn't know quality cartoons if Osamu "God of Manga" Tezuka slapped them upside the head with a script of one, my money's on "Spirit: Stalion of the Cimmeron(sp?)."

Best Documentary: "Bowling for Columbine" should win. And while we're at it, Michael Moore should at least be nominated for best director as well to make up for his lack of nominations when his poignent "Roger and Me" came out.

Best Soundtrack: I'm torn between "8 Mile" and "LotR: The Two Towers." Both desevre it.

Best Cinephotography: "LotR: 2T" or "Chicago."

Supporting Actor: I don't know his name, but whomever played Gollum in "LotR: 2T" was superve no matter what some idiots say about the character being CGI.

Supporting Actress: Queen Latifa or Catherine Zeta Jones in "Chicago."
Lead Actor: N/A (If anyone knows who should earn this award, feel free to say so now. You may also contest any of my other choices.)

Lead Actress: Renee Zelwigger(sp?) for "Chicago," hands down.

Foriegn Film: N/A

Best Director: Again, either Michael Moore ("Bowling for Columbine") or Peter Jackson ("LotR: 2T)

Best Independent Film: (Say it with me!) "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." (Oh, don't say you didn't see it coming...)

Best Film: "Chicago," or "The Hours." I would say "LotR: 2T," but we're looking at the big picture. "LotR" is an exercize in escapism, whereas the two movies I have mentioned (Yes, I've seen them both.) look at life and society. Mind you, "Chicago" does so in a 1930's cabaret musical sort of way, but it does so none the less. The judges eat that kind of stuff up with a fork.
