Subject: TGE:XLA Amanda: Eek. Are all of my other SI... cousins... like that?
LIAM: Thankfully, no.

Whoa. I know that losing someone you love kinda numbs you, thought Liam as he again avoided a slash from his opponent, but I didn't know it was like that for her! Maybe I can help a little. "Stop."

"You don't want to fight me anymore?" DBVG Amanda asked, crestfallen.

"I do. But there's something else I have to do first." He took his blade and brought it to his forearm. "I hope I remember how to do this correctly," he mumbled. He cut into his arm, just enough to draw blood. He squeezed his arm to milk more blood out and smeared his left hand with it. "LITANY." With those words, his cut was healed. He rolled up her sleave and drew a rune upon her arm and shoulder. When Liam finished, the runes began to glow softly.

"Okay. Let's try this again." Liam picked up his sword once more and prepared for combat. DBVG Amanda did the same, noting that the sword felt lighter in her hands. He charged at her begining his tirade with a simple slash at her ribs. She easlily avoided that and countered with a thrust at his right arm. It was blocked, and countered as well with a similar stirke to her left. The sword just grazed her elbow as she stood her ground, inches away from Liam. She swung at him as though the katana was a baseball bat. She cut at his face, scarring the bridge of his nose.

She continued with a roundhouse kick to the head. But Liam cought her leg. She tried again, sweeping her other leg up to worsen the damage to his face. It connected, making Liam recoil in pain. He grabbed his nose to stop the bleeding. He nver saw the upward slash coming. But it was blocked by a well timed horizontal cut. Their swords were crossed again. DBVG Amanda broke this face off with a knee to the gut, blocked by Liam's own knee. She jumped back and slashed madly at Liam, sending gusts of wind to push him back. Liam knew this technique, "Wind Brand," very well, and retaliated with his own attack. He swept his sword in a wide arch, producing a blade of ice that cut nearly all of the blades of air that came hurtling at him. a few found their target and knocked him to his knees several feat further.

"The runes seem to be working fine," he said to her as he got to his feet. She stopped to wonder where that extra strength came from. The runes! Liam drew them on her to increase her strength and agility.

"Now, we're evenly matched," he said. "That's still nowhere near as strong as a Sayin should be, but it's enough to give me a challenge. When this is over, I'll give you what you want, I promise. But for now, let's try to keep going as long as possible, okay?"

***
Your turn.
