"Hotel Muyo"
by Star S.

~~On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair~~

"Ahh.... This is life!" exclaimed Tenchi Masaki, riding down the deserted highway, feeling the cool breeze lift his spirits. "There's nothing like a good drive on an open road at dusk," he reflected, racing his red convertible across the landscape, watching the sun sink slowly into the west.

"I suppose being an insurance salesman has it's perks..." mused Tenchi. “After all, the car I got myself wasn't bad, the pay's great, it's just the customers..." He trailed off, sighing to himself, as he remembered his latest customer, a strong-willed woman who called him a 'parasitic cretin', 'carpetbagger', and who had left his office in such a storm, slamming the door, that his prized Impressionistic print had fallen and broken the frame. This encounter was what had led Tenchi to take some time off, to escape from the office, and forget about all of the pressures of life in general.

~~Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air~~

"Mmm..." Tenchi inhaled appreciatively. "I never realized exactly how crisp and clear the desert air is, in comparison to the smells of the city where I live. Everything is so quiet here, too, except for the sound of my car..."

~~Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light.
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim; I had to stop for the night.~~

As Tenchi mused thoughtfully while driving down the highway now obscured by dusk's gathering gloom, he was broken out of his reverie by a long and totally involuntary yawn, and the accompanying blackout of his vision for a moment.

"Wow," he remarked, blinking to clear his vision, "I must be more tired than I thought! Geez, I haven’t seen any rest stops or towns for miles... What'll I do if I don't find anything quick?" Suddenly, Tenchi thought he saw a shimmering up ahead.

"Wait, that looks like a... It is! A small town, and it can't be that far ahead. Good thing it was right there when I needed it the most..."

If Tenchi were a little more alert, and a little less tired, he might have questioned this strange coincidence; wondered how a town that had not previously been there had suddenly appeared just when he needed it the most. As it was, however, Tenchi was far too relieved by the prospect of being able to stay in a hotel to wonder about such things, and instead pressed the pedal to the metal, eager to reach the turnoff as soon as possible.

Turning onto the exit, Tenchi fantasized about the type of hotel he would find in the town. Would it be a bed-and-breakfast type deal, he wondered, or something like a hotel out of an old western? As he drove into the town proper, the first thing that caught his eye was a faded blue and white sign that read, "Welcome to Jurai," with in smaller letters underneath spelling out, "Population: YOU."

"Creepy..." Tenchi murmured, looking around. From what he could see in the gathering darkness, with only the light of the full moon for illumination, the town seemed to be a picturesque small southwest town. However, it seemed strangely... empty. Sure, there were cars in the driveways and parked along the main street, yeah, the houses seemed in good repair and well taken care of, but underneath, it seemed strangely soulless.

Shrugging off his reverie, and dismissing it simply as imaginations brought on by the darkness, Tenchi steered his car towards a building near the center of town, that proclaimed it was the "Hotel Muyo". Strangely enough, the hotel was the only building in town with a light in it; the highest window on the left, three stories up, flickered with what appeared to be candlelight, like a watchful eye.

~~As she stood in the doorway, I heard the mission bell.
I was thinking to myself, this could be heaven or this could be hell...~~

Tenchi drove up the short drive leading to the hotel, and parked it in the small parking lot alongside an old church. As he got out of his convertible, Tenchi was slightly surprised to hear the old mission bell on the church ring. He wondered why the bell would ring at this time of night, but was distracted when he noticed a pair of glowing eyes watching him from the hotel doorway. Stepping up on the front porch, the illumination of the full moon showed him the very pretty body attached to those glowing eyes. Tall, with a curvaceous figure, and long locks bleached silver by moonlight, she wore a low-cut dress in an older style. Tenchi gulped involuntarily.

~~As she lit up the candle, and she showed me the way,
there were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say...~~

He watched, enraptured, as she lifted her hand, produced a candle, and lit it without any visible source of flame. Tenchi immediately followed when she raised a hand, beckoned him towards her, and spoke a single word, “Come,” in her sultry voice, leading him down a short corridor and into the hotel.

This was an old western-style hotel, Tenchi noted swiftly. Dark wood paneling, that antique smell, candles for illumination, it seemed like something right out of a Hollywood set. The short corridor the woman was leading him down swiftly ended, opening out into the main lobby. There was a grand staircase leading up to the second and third floors, and the main desk was set off to Tenchi’s left side, with even the old-time letterboxes adorning the wall behind it. Standing behind the main desk, he noted, stood a short young woman with a mane of shockingly reddish-pink hair, wearing something that would have seemed more appropriate on the dealer in a hand of poker in the old West than on a young lady. ‘Reddish-pink?’, he idly wondered, ‘That’s gotta be out of a bottle, no way that could be natural.’ The beauty he was following led him straight to the desk, and then stopped, waiting.

“Hello, and welcome to the Hotel Muyo,” the short woman said in a surprisingly childish voice. “Will you be staying the night with us?”

“Uhh... Yes. Yes! I’d like a room, please,” Tenchi responded, attempting to shake off this deep and inexplicable lethargy that had come over him suddenly.

“Excellent,” she smiled. Clapping her hands twice, she called out, “Miss Ayeka, would you please escort Mr. Masaki to his room? Miss Ryoko, you may join her in doing so.”

As a beautiful woman with long, deep violet tresses materialized at Tenchi’s elbow and gently but insistently led him up the staircase, he stammered to the young lady behind the counter, “How... how did you know my name?”

Her emerald eyes glowed almost incandescent as she answered, “Never fear, Mr. Masaki, we just know.”

Tenchi tried to stay there and question her further, but now the tall woman who met him at the door, (‘Ryoko?’ his mind wondered,) had joined the violet-haired woman (‘Was it Ayeka?’) in leading him up the grand staircase and down a long corridor.

~~Welcome to the Hotel California, such a lovely place (such a lovely place), such a lovely face.
Plenty of room at the Hotel California, any time of year (any time of year), can find it here.~~

As Tenchi was being led through the corridor by the two beautiful women, he passed by many open doors. In each case, the occupant of the room came to the door to watch him pass by, and in some cases, welcome him to the hotel.

There was the tall, bronze-skinned blonde, who waved from her room and proclaimed in a cheery voice, “Hi, Mr. Masaki! I hope you enjoy your stay here!”

“This is really starting to scare me,” Tenchi muttered to himself, but he could not stop because Ayeka and Ryoko were gently but firmly pulling him along.

“Hello, Mr. Tenchi! My name’s Sasami, pleased to meetcha! Hope to see you around the hotel,” came from a small child, of perhaps eight years old, bouncing in excitement a few doors down the hotel. She had strikingly bright blue hair done up in twin ponytails that trailed down her sides.

“How did you know my name?” Tenchi called after her, as he was led away.

“Why shouldn’t I know your name, Mr. Tenchi?” Sasami queried innocently, watching and waving as Tenchi was pulled farther down the hallway by the very insistent women leading him there.

Finally, the party of three reached their destination; the room on the left-hand side at the end of the hallway.

And that's as far as I have gotten. For those of you wondering, Colitas is the tip or flower of the marijuana plant. I really didn't want to mess with that... -_-;;
I don't know if I like the way the fic is shaping up; I have a general outline of the way the fic will go, and I know exactly how its going to end. But the middle is all a muddle... Gah.
