The "September Raleigh Rally".
Teal Meadow Billing Aquadrome 11th 12th September.
I would like to formally invite you guys to camp with us over the weekend and show us your amazing bikes, and maybe any other interesting bikes you may have. This could be your September RCOC event, like a tail ender to the june fest as well as our "September Raleigh Rally". There are many events for specific Raliegh bikes but this is one for "ALL" of the Raleigh Bikes through the ages old and new, everyone welcome!.
We have even invited some tall bike and muscle bike maker/collectors from Holland.

We have booked the weekend under the heading "The Raleigh Rally" and you may want to arrive friday if you are selling wares.
I am hoping for a good turnout, 300 people on bikes for Saturday's 3.30pm "Ride around the Aquadrome".
I am looking for Catfood Rob's e mail to formally invite him to do what only he can do.
I will be getting local and maybe national papers there (Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire Evening Telegraphs for sure).
We are working out something with Raleigh's Nicola Wilcockson, maybe they can promote the MK III Chopper.
Also I am trying to contact people that worked at the old factory, if I can find anyone it would be great.
I have several raliegh bikes of different ages and will be taking them all.
We are also hoping for a large turnout of Grifters from the RGOC.
Paul Anstee is showing interest from www.lovelylowrider.co.uk

Come and show off your whole collection!.

Alun is the organiser for this event

Is there anybody who can let me know how to get at Billing and how far (in hours please) it is away from London. It's quite a trip for me because i come by car and alone. I start from Dover at about 7.oo am. saturdaymorning. And also i want to know if i can come just like that or do i have to book it somewhere in advance. And as i can see the pics from last year, i can sleep there in my tent i suppose.

Southend Carnival 2003 Saturday 16th August 2003 IS GO!!!

Starting time 18:00 hrs finishing time 22:00 hrs.

For more information contact Paul @
paulgarrycostin@hotmail.com or 0794 120 8258

Anybody interested in coming along they should contact me prior to event so that I have an idea of numbers.

It has been decided that this year will be more of a "Meet".

Therefore, from about 3pm onwards a "Meet" will take place in Chalkwell Park on the East side, where the main car park is situated.

In order that people only have a short distance to cycle at the conclusion of the event, it is suggested they drive their cars to Southend East Railway Station, and take there bikes on the train to Chalkwell Station about 3 stops down the line. Chalkwell is a short distance from both the start line AND Chalkwell Park.

The Carnival concludes at about 10pm, near to the Castle pub, where , if people want to socialise further, they can without having to rush back as happened on last years event....

Lights on a bike are a must In addition, neither the event organisers, or I, want anyone Under the Influence while in the saddle on our "float". As I am the one who is the point of contact for the event organisers, it is reasonable to ask that nobody brings any shame on the Chopperworld! (another reason to know who is intending to come along!!!!!!!!!!!) " Full First Aid cover will be provided by RCOC during the Carnival.

See you all there!!! :)))

Cheers

Just a few weeks now to South Cerney show. Anyone who attended the big Wroughton show last year - it is sadly no more. After the traffic chaos etc last year and I think the fact that the show had grown so big, it has now moved to a new location (still an airfield - so easy riding!) the other side of the M4. For those of you not in the West Country - the nearest place on the map will be Swindon. This is well worth the trip. 2500 vehicles last year not including the club vehicles. Something for everyone, fantastic autojumble though I can't gaurantee you'll find Chopper parts. Bring your bike along whatever the model/condition - just enjoy it. Camping from 4pm Friday and entertainment, beer tent etc both nights for those with passes. You can just turn up on the Sat or Sun, but it will cost you £7.50 per person. I have passes available now FREE (and loads of them as organisers sent 3times as many as I asked for). Just email, text or phone:- 07973 383043

Hello! Just like to say that if anyone hasn't seen them yet, there are a bunch of photos from the Chopper meet at Billing on www.funjunkie.co.uk

Just type Chopper into the search box at the top, and you'll get a whole list of chopper stuff.

Also, since I know that some of you are complete mentalists, we are running a stupid photo competition at the moment, with a star prize of a digital camcorder! I reckon someone has to enter a Chopper themed picture... maybe get some flames in there too?

Check it out at: www.funjunkie.co.uk/competitions.cfm

Date Posted: 17:32:15 06/22/03 Sun

I am looking to adjust plans slightly for the Southend Carnival this year to make it more of a "meet" ..the plans (subject to change) are as follows:

If people make their way to Southend East Railway Station and leave their cars in that locality and get the train BACK to Chalkwell with their bikes, three stops down the line. (Southend East is near to where the carnival finishes and is about 5 minutes cycle away from the seafront..this hopefully will save the mad dash back to the Elms pub for "finish time" drinks)

Chalkwell is the start point for the Carnival and it is also about 5 minutes cycle (uphill) to Chalkwell park where It is intended to have a pre carnival "meet" from about 2-3 pm onwards....I am intending to get in contact with Southend Borough Council to see if it is okay to set up a Bar-B-Q in the park and maybe a few Beers/soft drinks etc

From about 5.30 we can then cycle down the hill or push the bike and join the start of the Carnival...at the conclusion of the carnival more socialising and then Voila!!! - a SHORT ride to Southend East to pick up the cars....

I may be in a position to sort out accomadation for those that require it but obviously need an idea of who intends to come....

I should stress that the carnival organisors will not tolerate anybody who is Pi**ed ( and neither will I!!) and lights are needed for all bikes...

I am the point of contact with the council for our "float"...

Lets make it a good one!!!!!!!

Please email if you intend to join us!

Cheers
PC

PS I forgot to add that the "Castle" Pub is also near the finish line!!!!!!

I have found out today the Hot Rod boys all failed to show at Billing this year due to some internal problems.
I asked for the 18th/19th of June for 2004 (UK American car show) and was told most of it is now fully booked and we would now be sharing the Swans field with others!
Therefore I have been advised the 4th-6th of June 2004 is the Hot Rod show again, but for 2004 they are fully committed and are now under contract to lay on a show.
We have the offer of Puddle Duck Place which is a better area than Swans field! And will be closer to the cars. I have provisionally booked this Date and Location but any suggestions for changes will need to be in quickly.

Cheers for now

9th Nostalgia Show, South Cerney (Just off Swindon junction of the M4) Sat 26/Sun 27 July. Just to let anybody local to the West Country (or in fact anywhere else - you are more than welcome) that I have arranged with the organisers a fair sized space for a Raleigh Chopper display. This is a superb show,my personal favorite, for you down South, it is about on par with the Enfield pageant. 2500 vehicles last year (and loads of Choppers) plus the club stands...something for all tastes. It's on an old airfield so riding should be easy! I have asked for just 10 camping spaces - that is 2 adults plus vehicles (any under 14s are free) free for the weekend including camping. Paul the organiser has kindly said we can camp in the Rally field, so no worry about getting a good camping spot. If you don't book you can't get in Friday night, and you will have to pay £7.50 per adult to get in per day. I can have more passes, but I need to know - so don't ring me the night before asking!!! I am bringing along my May 1976 Grifter, along with 2 Choppers (no Raleigh Shoppers!!), already have a good selection of Choppers booked in. Should be a good one.

THIS IS IT!!! 3 DAYS and Counting to ‘BILLING 2003’
The Largest Collection of Raleigh Coppers in the world on display this weekend :)

The Area assigned to us is now taped off and signs directing visitors are displayed from where you access the Billing Park.
At the entrance to the park there is a BP service station and fully stocked shop. The shop is open 7 days a week from 06:00 to 22:00.The shop has a cash machine (Lloyds) for the cash you need for the parts you never thought you would find :)
The shop seems to be very resonably priced, Budweiser at £1.05 a bottle! :)

As the name suggests (Billing ‘Aquadrome’) the park does have lakes and water ways. People visiting with small children may want to be made aware of this fact.
Also around the Chopper area there will be rubbish sacks attached to posts, please use these to avoid litter entering the water ways and to help the general area to stay nice.

If anyone has any queries after this Friday afternoon please call 07889 176290 or email

This is the hot news!!, The Creative Director for Chocpix, the Promotion Company for Aardman Animations (Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit)basically want to come down to billing to film & photograph as many people as possible on Choppers. Why - they currently have a character called Angry Kid (now showing on BBC3 and via the Internet. Angry Kid is a character aimed at adults, like us in our early 20s. Aardman Animations are releasing the Angry Kid DVD on 9 June, so therefore they need some publicity for this, both via photo, film and national press, in addition they need some film for the next series, which is where we come in. They want to film us. In return we'll get some freebies, including a copy of the DVD and the Angry Kid face Mask.
What they want from us,
1. As many people as possible,
2. Everyone on Choppers
3. Everyone will need to wear the Angry Kid facemask, (supplied).
4. Filming will be sat 7 June afternoon.

If you want to know more email me or look on the Angry Kid website, http://www.angrykid.com.

Remember if you want to be part of it, you'll need to be there on Saturday.
You can also down load the films, which are short (about 3 – 4 mins) but the DVD will have all 25 films on it.
Remember these films are really meant for adult viewing. I cannot see however any problem in the kids being in the photo shoot. As the national press will also be there, this will be good for us also.

THIS IS THE PLAN AT THE MOMENT BUT THE WHOLE EVENT IS SUBJECT TO CONFIRMATION FROM 20TH CENTURY FOX AND PATHE FILMS.

See you there. You need to bring your own Winnibago and you'll need no make-up.
