North Korea is not next - not because there is no oil, but because, while insane, the leadership there is not driven by a murderous, expansionist ideology. Besides, to kick that ant hill over might well mean another mushroom cloud over Japan.

And Iraq was only peripherally about Oil - not that we would take it but we certainly prefer reasonable people in charge that will sell it to us without trying to blackmail us. In case you have forgotten, Matthew, Saddam lifted more than a finger against Kuwait (and Iran before that) and threatened the Saudis. And THAT was all about OIL and the power it would have brought him over the western world.

We smashed him, showed more mercy than he deserved and settled into containment mode until 9/11 illustrated for us that we were not out of reach. No WMD? Don't kid yourself. He had them and used them on the Iranians and on his own people. Shall I send you pictures of Kurdish mothers dead in the street, babe in arms, both gassed to death? Just because we didn't find them doesn't mean they don't exist. If you have been paying attention of late, George Sada, no. 2 in the Iraqi airforce reports that convoys and airlifts were used to transport this material to Syria just before the second invasion (much like the air force fled to Iran in the '91 conflict)

You may choose not to believe it, but the '03 conflict was all about preventing a desperate caged animal from helping religious nuts have another go at us with bio/chem weapons.

Matthew is dead on about border security - lets hope that none of us wind up dead because of border insecurity.
