Hello Nursing friends!

I know I wrote a few months back that my license was going to be reinstated, and I am writing to you now with a freshly (6 weeks or so)minted RN license in my own state! Lots of hoops to jump through at the last minute but it is done. 3 years of probation to go, but Ive been testing and jumping through all the hoops for the last two years anyway, so what is another 3? At least now I can get a job to be able to actually afford the urine screens, right?

About the job issue, worked everything out to volunteer with the doctors office and that is going great. The only drawback is I am waiting for official approval because I either needed to do an extended orientation ( and believe me, this is subject to interpretation) or a refresher course. I am sure many of you have looked at these refresher courses and they are pretty expensive. I just do not have the money to take one.

And.....the kicker......I have an interview with Davita this week! I am so excited I can barely breathe! The interview is the regional manager, he asked me about the suspension but only in the context of "but your license is active as of now, correct?" We have had several conversations this week so I already feel like I have met him and we are just going over some details. He has been trying to contact my Board Casemanager to verify and has already checked my references. He even emailed me for some details on Thanksgiving :-) Which reminded me to be thankful for people who don't seem too hung up on my 'issues', lol.....

Something interesting about paying for urine screens....if any of you have one of the health care savings accounts you might be interested in this. My husband carries our health insurance and we have a certain amount of money put into a health care account out of his check every week and his employer puts $1000 a year into it. We don't have any health conditions so to speak and hardly ever use this account. What I do pay for related to health care is the never ending drug screens! So I decided to try and get the HSA to pay for my drug screens. It took a few phone calls and I basically told them this- I had a chemical dependecy issue and as part of my recovery program, I still have to take a mandatory drug screen about every month in order to maintain my sobriety. She pondered it for a minute, I sent a note from my physician that they were required and taaa daaaa...they agreed that this was a covered medical expense. Not only can I use the Mastercard that is from this account to pay for my screens (bills every month to that account), but I sent in the invoices for all that I had already paid for this year and they send me a check to cover those as well! I loved cashing that $750 check! So, if you ahve one of those accounts, you might want to try to use that as well. Kind of a relief not worrying about having to pay for those out of my meager paycheck every month.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to the holidays. I don't know about you all, but I dread it only because I am so poor the last few months. But, I am ALIVE and starting a new direction since I have the potential to get a real job with a decent earning potential. It is going to take me two years to dig out from the debts I have accumulated since losing my nursing salary, but I will love having the ability to make the ends meet again :-)

Have a great weekend !
