Hi Millie!
I do remember you. I used to live on this board during the early days of my sobriety in 2007/2008. I used to love the banter, although I didn't always agree with the AA bashing as I am one of those that support their mission.
To make a long story short, we moved from CA to FL and back again where my licenses are suspended in both states. If I wanted to try and get my license back here in CA, I would have to go before the board, pay fines, etc. Given the glut of nurses here in So Cal, and the fact that I haven't worked at the bedside in 7 years, my chances for a job are slim to none. So I made the decision to go into a field where my life experiences will be put to good use, counseling. At first I was just going to get my Masters in Addiction Counseling, but have decided to go for my Professional Counseling license. Yes, I will need a license and I know that I will have to answer for my past, but am willing to take that chance. I feel like this is the one area that I can work in where I won't be judged for what I did in the past.
I too miss nursing, for all the same reasons that you mention. I also, as a Labor and Delivery nurse miss the adrenaline rush, and the joy of the occasion. All my years of being a L&D nurse ended up being my downfall in ever finding a nursing job as no one would give me a chance because 'how could you want to work LTC after L&D?"
I too would love to hear from any of you. My email is lisa@sierrasnana.com
