I remember the Millie and Madison 'discussions" so well! I came to this board very early in my sobriety (now 6 1/2 years). There were so many participants! I have taken a different path choosing not to try to get my license back. To make a long story short, caught diverting in CA, started the Diversion program. After a year, DH got a great job offer in FL (we were only going to stay a year), but the 1 year turned into 4. License was suspended in CA due to not being in the state, and in the meantime I got my FL license and started their IPN program. After a year of that ( only nursing job was a teaching one as a adjunct), never could find another nursing job. Besides being in IPN, I had another strike against me, all of my experience was in L&D. No one would touch me. After DH got laid off in FL, we returned to CA. My license in FL was suspended due to leaving the state. At first I was going to go before the board here in CA, but when I saw the dismal amount of nursing jobs here, I said forget it. Truly, no one would hire me. Narc restriction on top of where all of my experience was in, coupled with 50% of new grads in this state can't get a job, I decided it's not worth it. When I left 6 years ago we were in a dire nursing shortage and now we have a glut! To go through the pain, and to me it was pain, of being subjected to random drug tests, controlling what meds you can and can't take, meeting attendance, and determining whether or not you can go out of town, all to not be able to get a job?? Nope. Even with a MSN, not worth it. So does that mean I have found a non-nursing job. Nope. Been looking for almost a year. Even paid to have my resume "dumbed down". For every job opening there are at least 300-400 applicants. I thank God everyday that I have a husband that provides for us. So that's my story. I hope this board gets going again. Where are Millie and Madison, do you know??? [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
