I'd like to say how inspirational your sound is. Before I was introduced to you, I was wondering if anyone would ever fuse the DJ style of hiphop with electronic (house, etc.). You do it with superb accurateness and style, very nice! Can't wait to catch your set @ Electric Daisy Carnival!
Anyhow :-D

1. Being on tour around the world, do you run into the Pioneer DJM-600 often? If so, how do you like it for the style of DJing you do?

2. So you spin "hard country" huh? :-P How has the WMC changed over time since your first trip there over 10 years ago? (believe you've been going to it almost since the beginning)

3. Have you opted to blend in CDs with your live sets? Or your still faithfully loyal to vinyls?

4. How did you manage to get Insomniac to let you bring your 30+ entourage of friends for Together As One (NYE event, 00/01)? :-D

5. Do you still live in Chicago? I say you move to California :-P j/p

I dig all your CDs, but I'd say Global House Culture 4 was some very smooth mixing. And the pace is nice! So much energy on the dance floor when songs change rapidly. Keeps me on my toes! Well, I'll definitely catch you at EDC! You played wonderfully @ last years EDC btw! Also, nice new layout on the website!! Well, I still hope you consider the move to CA. :-D hhehe...

1) I have the DJM-600 in my contract, so most promoters get that mixer for me to use, because its my favorite....
2) The WMC was so much smaller ten years ago, and it was mostly dj's, record promoters/owners and people directly in the music business who attended. It used to go back and forth each year between Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami, and you would never have a problem getting into any club!!!
3) No CD's at my live shows yet, however, on my mix CD's I get a lot of unreleased music on CDR, so I will mix those tracks in off of CD.
4) On New Year's I was with a lot of my friends from the hip hop community, including Da Mizza and Shade Sheist, and all their security and friends, and I had a lot of my friends from LA, and Chicago with me, and we just ended up being like four limos deep with like thirty people, and the Insomniac people were really nice to let us all in, and we all had a great time.....
5) I still live in Chicago, but you never know....
Thanks for the love!!!
See ya at EDC!

Fast response! Thanks! :-P
Just wanted to know some random tidbits if you don't mind.... like....

1. What's your fav. movie?
2. Favorite Food?
3. Favorite VENUE? (most interesting place you've got a graceful chance to play @?)
4. Are you good @ b-ball? :-P

I was @ a party this past sunday, @ Doc Martin was usin' the DJM-600 as well, and I've been having my eye on this mixer for awhile now. Do you toy wit the FX's on it playin' live?

If you eventually do find out what time you're playing at, could you relay that on this forum? But I'm sure you probably won't find out from Insomniac till the day of (once you're probably in CA. with no net access). I'm sure you meet random people all the time, watch out for BabyBloo, she's gonna be on you like glue (j/p babybloo) :-P see both of you on sat.

What do you do with all of your old vinyl? Are they kept in some warehouse or given away or disposed? If givin' away, I'd like to be 1st in line :-D

Play a "bangin'" set on sat.! I'm looking forward to an "awe"spiring B3 set ;-)

Sorry fer bogglin' you with more :-D I gotta take advantage of this week :-)
I was wondering:

1. Growing up, did you play any instruments or learned music composition growing up?

2. Do you (or is it possible?)key match on the fly or mark records? Or is key matching more important in studio work and rarely done live?

3. I heard you use a Roland MC-505, how is that? Do you use it in live sets also? Or mainly in the studio?

4. Is your studio home based?

5. There's little difference between the Mk2 and the M3D (1200s), which would you recommend?

6. For the intro's and in-set voice overs you use (ex.: "bad boy bill is in the mix.. etc. etc.), are those already pressed on vinyl? or on portable DAT? sampler? (just curious)

7. Do you ever eat before a set? (just curious :-P )

Questions and answers:
1. What's your fav. movie?
Tie between: The Godfather 1 and 2 or Scarface

2. Favorite Food?
Tie between :Pizza and Pasta

3. Favorite VENUE? (most interesting place you've got a graceful chance to play @?)
I really like Avalon in Boston, the sound and lights are really dope, and the crowd is always into it....

4. Are you good @ b-ball? :-P
I've got some skills for a white boy....

1. Growing up, did you play any instruments or learned music composition growing up?
I took a couple years of piano.

2. Do you (or is it possible?)key match on the fly or mark records? Or is key matching more important in studio work and rarely done live?
Key matching is something I just listen for while I'm dj'ing, I can tell if it's really out of key, but normally I will mix beats and music instead of music with music...

3. I heard you use a Roland MC-505, how is that? Do you use it in live sets also? Or mainly in the studio?
The 505 is really cool, but I use it in the studio, not during my live dj sets, just because it would be too much to carry city to city....

4. Is your studio home based?
Yes.

5. There's little difference between the Mk2 and the M3D (1200s), which would you recommend?
I use the ones without the button next to the pitch, because I am always worried I'll be in the middle of a mix and hit that button, and it will put the pitch to quartz lock.

6. For the intro's and in-set voice overs you use (ex.: "bad boy bill is in the mix.. etc. etc.), are those already pressed on vinyl? or on portable DAT? sampler? (just curious)
Already pressed on vinyl....

7. Do you ever eat before a set? (just curious :-P )
Yes, sometimes, and after my set since nothing is usually open, I usually eat at the mini-mart at a gas station :-(

Thanks for the love and support,
BBB

Ouch about the mini-mart being your primary after hours food source :-D I know in California, something you might consider for "on the go" food: AM/PM (gas stations), and Jack in the Box. Neither I'm a fan of, but when you got the munchies, you got the munchies :-P
Have you been offered a spot to play on Radio One (1)? I've been waitin' for them to get more US DJs to play. Doc did a gig for them recently.

More recently, I've heard less vocals in your mixes than in last year, is there a reason for this? Style change? I'm just wondering, either way: the direction you're pathing yourself looks nice.

-Donny

P.S. I swear no more questions, honest :-D

I was supposed to play radio one with pete tong live from chicago a couple months ago when pete was in town, but the hi-speed connection was down, and it didn't happen....hopefully soon....
as far as music style, I just play what I like, and I guess right now, there aren't a lot of vocal records I'm feeling, but I do like good vocals, and some of the music that I've made have vocals, so I will be playing those....
as far as hatiras, no date yet, keep checking www.mixconnection.com for the latest info....
wow, that was a lot of questions....you definitely have a future in journalism....
:-)
