Subject: Second Chance

She sat stoned in silence
her eyes glazed
from the injected needle.
Where was the euphoria
she had experienced
on her last drug trip?

Only shadows of desperation
lingered.
Gone was the lover
who had betrayed her
and the will to live.
She wanted to ascend
into blessed darkness.

Suddenly a bright light
illuminated the room.
A woman in white
extended her hand
and softly said “Peace be with you”.

The image faded
and her spirit burned
with the flame of hope.
