“57” CHEVY

Partying in a “57” Chevrolet.
I can remember better days.

Rain poured down that cold dark night.
Jimmy’s arms wrapped around me tight.

Zeppelin’s voice carried us away.
Wished that night would forever stay.

The stench of pot and booze filled the air.
Livin’ it up without a single care.

Jimmy started the car and we headed home.
Had no idea of the nightmare about to come.

Saw the light as red as blood.
Jimmy laughing sipped his Bud.

Jimmy ran the light like a bullet from a gun.
Heard the skid marks as the wheels spun.

Heard a crash
As the blue lightning flashed.

Jimmy flew right through the windshield.
I knew right then that he couldn’t be healed.

I bumped my head but I was fine
That night we crossed danger’s line.

As I heard the sirens cry,
I knew I’d never get to say goodbye.

I can’t believe what I saw that night.
My best friend lost life’s bitter fight.

His face still haunts my memory.
Don’t know if I’ll ever be free.

I’ll never forget that night of fun,
Cryin’ and wishin’ I was the one.
