No Car

walking through the oil
in a parking lot
approaching a field
a lone truck parked
on a long stretch of curb
and onto the soil fret
about that future -
the unknowable
dreams of grandeur
that haunts my droopy life…
ahh, the beautiful abyss…
the gleaming chrome
that finds itself
in my life,
on the bumpers
of old hot-rods
that I don’t drive,
but some mechanic
slaved over it
FOR YEARS?!

I am humbled
knowing that in front of my door
I will never gaze upon
a Thunderbird, Ford
