Different from other times,
I felt on display
performing for my Western Degas.

He stared
at supple legs,
split apart, drawn
to yearning perfection

by his lashes
scribbling me in charcoal.

Sunlight trickled
over the bed
and highlighted flesh
with its pale, yellow blood.

He loved this virginal touch
and whispered “yes”

to a mustang flung
wild and bared
across laundered plains
of cotton..
