Well, I talked to twins tonight and asked if the world was like them how would they treat them. Their answer: they would feel sad for them. Like they were challenged in some way because they don't have their other half.
You could do many angles on this, it depends on what your up for. The rarity of a "single" birth could be seen as "very special" and they could be treated as such. Or, perhaps they are treated as "challenged" and maybe locked up in a ward of other singles that perhaps the government took. Maybe the challenged ones are really "SPECIAL" and between all the singles that are locked up they have their own unique language and link; maybe the government uses them for experiments.
Now is the world only "twins" or are triplets acceptable and are they treated any differently. Perhaps, this "house" is filled with singles and the spare triplet.
You could tell it from the POV of the rare single until he gets to the "house".
Just ideas I'm bouncing off. I like this idea. Unless there is two... you're packed up and shipped to the "house".

This is a major idea that has plagued me since I started to think about it. I have very good friends that are identical and Connie lost her sister last year in a house fire. She definitely feels like half of her is gone.

Hadn't considered the possibility of other multiples, though I was going with all twinning to be identical. Maybe frat twins are one step down, singles another. The idea of them to gather or be gathered in one spot is good, I think maybe I was headed that way, but not sure where it's going from there. Food for thought

It's your world, if all the births shoot identical twins - then that's what happens BUT what if, there are the rarities like fraternal or triplets and GASP a single. What's happening to their race of IT's? If the world only know IT's then I think they/someone would be questioning the uniqueness of these oddities/rarities. Would the parents that had them consider them freaks? Would they want them - hide them - let the government have them. Would they protect them and for how long? Perhaps your MC can be hidden away by his/her parents because they don't want their child taken away. Maybe this is a governtmental control thing. The child grows up and is found out and sent away to the "house". Tested on. If its a girl maybe even impreganated. If so, what happens? Does she have a single, twins? What does this single person think of this world....the home...
You can run wild with this and I can't wait to see where you take it. Eagerly awaiting. Now go start your outline, CA's, chapter outlines, get prepared girl. We are so going to win the NaNo's. :-)

Thanks!!! Lots of ideas to run with. I'll be thinking about this in the weeks to come. Who know what's going to happen. Now, to copy this and the other ideas and paste them into a document for further perusal...
