Subject: One of those scenes
So I'm sitting here trying to get Carey On whipped into shape, but this one little scenario just will NOT get out of my head. It keeps intruding into my head and trying to insert itself into places it won't fit.
Since the little bugger kept demanding my attention, I finally gave up and wrote it. It doesn't fit anywhere into the book and I won't be using it, but I did have fun writing it and thought I'd share it with y'all. No crits or anything needed - just throwing out a quick bit (only 294 words) of light reading for you.

Heat suffused Katies body as she fixed her unswerving stare between Stuart Bradys legs. Ignoring the small beads of perspiration that broke out on her upper lip and the larger trickles rolling down the back of her neck, she watched the intricate play of his fingers as they danced between his thighs. A small, almost imperceptible shake of her head told him that wasnt what she wanted, and his fingers stilled. After a brief pause they began moving again, this time in a different rhythm. Katie narrowed her eyes. Interesting, but it still wasnt what she needed and she shook her head again.
Every line of Stuarts body exuded impatience, but he obeyed her silent command to stop. He clenched his hand for a moment before making a deliberate, decisive movement with his fingers.
A silent sigh of relief relaxed Katies shoulders. That was what shed been waiting for, and she directed a slow nod of approval in Stuarts direction. He nodded back and shifted his body, spreading his legs wider, waiting for Katie to make the next move.
She straightened her shoulders, her hand exploring the contours of the hardness in her grip. Her fingertips skimmed across its firm smoothness, seeking the ridges she wanted. Her eyes lifted to Stuarts, and she knew the expression on his face was mirrored on hers. They were both serious, unsmiling; intent upon the same goal.
With a flurry of movement, Katie lifted her left leg and drew her arm back. Bringing it forward with all the strength and control she could muster, she released the baseball on its path toward the catchers mitt Stuart held ready; with a satisfying whack, it socked into the glove a split second before the batter swung at nothing but air.

So sneaky! I know what you mean about something demanding to be written. Wish something would demand I write it about now. I'm about to re-read Old Dogs *again* in hopes od something moving along... *sigh*

I had a feeling you were tricking me- because Stuart wasn't Adam or Jay- but I couldn't stop the uh, images from forming nor could I figure out what the trick was going to be. Baseball! Very, very fun. Thanks.

this activity, but never before had I realized the fringe benefits. *G* But anything to get Stuart to spread his legs can't be all that bad. ;-)
I so love these little scenes that must be written. Not only do they give us a better understanding of the character but by allowing us to be free to write them without constraint, they truly emerge as stronger characters. Thanks for sharing!
