Subject: Has anyone else self-published?

Okay, so I have just self-published my first book. Its not my main genre, which is romance/fantasy/etc, but instead a collection of my side passion...erotica. I chose to use a pen name and self-publish because these stories were sitting there in my computer...mocking me. Lol. Not wanting to really connect my real name (which I hope to be published under someday) with my erotic book so I self-published. Question is :Does anyone have any creative ideas on marketing this? I have a couple of good reviews but I'm a little lost as to what to do next.

Also, I'm not sure how creative this is, but here are my suggestions. *G*

First, a blog and interation with the masses is a must. An interesting post, everyday, will keep readers coming back. Gather a following on facebook and Twitter.

Second, I believe that ebooks are the wave of the future. Having become spoiled with my ereader, I have become addicted to simply going online and finding an ebook to interest me and having access to it immediately. And I love the whole format. To that end, I've discovered there are a few sites out there that offer the way to do this for free, with the charge coming when a book sells, eg 15% of the selling price. So what's not to love about getting royalties right away?

A couple of the sites I chanced upon are

Smashwords

www.smashwords.com

Pubit

http://pubit.barnesandnoble.com/pubit_app/bn?t=pi_reg_home

And for Amazon

https://dtp.amazon.com/mn/signin/180-8825183-6636712

Now, keep in mind that I've never used these services myself, so can offer no feedback that way, but it is something to look into.

There's also sites for independent authors that might be benefitial. One I've found, but haven't had a change to delve too deeply into is

http://www.indiebookcollective.com/IndieBookCollective/Home.html

Other author blogs have gems of information and the information is limitless, so spend some time reading some and checking out the links.

And third, there are ebook sites that take submissions. Ellora's Cave comes to mind given the nature of your work, but again, I've never submittted so can be of no help.

The site is http://www.jasminejade.com/default.aspx if you want to check it out.

I've never looked into a physical printing aspect of self-publishing, so you're on your own there, too. But best of luck to you! This is exciting.

Just one thing... Be sure to come back and let me know where I can get my hands on it...*G*

Hugs

Esther

Its been a long time sice I tried to post anything inside here so I might flub it. My book is called Midnight Melodies : A Collection of Erotic Tales. The author name is Elizabeth LaRou and it is currently available on Amazon. I thank you so much for your help Esther!I am looking into Smashwords today and I just got my website up and running yesterday (elizabethlarou.com). I hope to start a blog soon and I am also working on a few short stories that I will submit to Amazon that I will sell for little or nothing just to get my name and work out there and circulating. Again, thanks a lot for your help and I am definitely looking forward to exploring some of your suggestions.

[> [> [> Well...I love the cover!!! And your reviews are great and decided me that this is a book I have to have. Unfortunately, I don't own a kindle, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for another format. *G* Keep me posted, and all the best of luck to you! And I'll be back to check out your blog when I can get a few minutes to myself. ;-) -- Esther, 12:25:05 01/26/11 Wed

[> [> [> [> I believe you can also download it to your pc, not for sure though. Also, I have the kindle app on my phone, that's how I get my kindle books. It was free and its awesome having a book with me no matter where I am! Thanks for the cover compliment, I really stressed about that! -- LisaL., 10:10:57 01/28/11 Fri

Hey! Good for you, LisaL. I don't know much about self-publishing but I was at a writer's group last night and some guy was talking about something Amazon is doing called Amazon Shorts which if I understood correctly is for short story collections for Kindle. You oughtta Google that or just check Amazon's website. You might also check out Samhain publishing if you do erotica. Maybe look for an e-publishing site? I'm just throwin' out ideas here. Good luck.
