Hi All

On the back of my new Kindle book release on Amazon, mighty LOL, Judie, advised me to come on and say hi. I thought this might be a good place to begin conversing, given I've worked with a lot of aspiring writers and emerging authors.

If you'd like to know a bit more about me, feel free to check out any or all of the following:

Oh, btw, consider me the much less famous 'DG' writer!

[> Hi, Folks. Yes, this is Darren Groth, one of our family friends to boot! I've read The Umbilical Word and just bought the Kindle version of The Focus and the Freak by Darren and his brother Simon. Looking forward to reading that! Welcome, Darren! :D -- Judie, 16:22:35 04/14/12 Sat

Hi Lady Morilka
Thanks for the Twitter add :)
Look forward to catching some of your poetic musings. I did quite a bit of poetry in younger years; I think it was a good grounding for my shorts and novels. Taught me that good writing in any form is all about emotional engineering.

[> Welcome Darren! Grab your drink of choice and follow me >>> -- Myxtress, 12:02:55 04/16/12 Mon

Just a little background since I am not aware if Judie filled you in. We are a small group, recently down to Lady Morilka and myself, and in our best days, comprised of aspiring writers in all stages, from the newbie right up to those writing query letters and looking at the publishing aspect. I say best days, simply because it was with the higher numbers that this board worked best. It’s hard to get feedback from fellow writers when no one is posting. *G* But we have LOL working for us, and with such a wonderful community, I’m positive we can’t do anything but succeed.

Anyway. I’ve been a part of Judie’s LOL community for over a decade, and am thrilled she recommended you to our online forum. And I’m also ecstatic you introduced yourself. You are, I believe, the first man to grace the Literary Forum.

I also admit I was curious, so I did click on the links, and in this instance believe I’ll take the opportunity to share a bit about myself. I’ll try to keep it short. *G* In real life, I’ve been with my ‘better half’ for 21 years. Together we have a fifteen-year-old son and a fourteen-year-old daughter. The in-laws built their house in Surrey back in the day, and hence when we travel, it’s for the DS and DD to visit the grandparents, but we call Prince George our home, my having lived here 35 years and the DH 33 years. The way he tells it, he came to PG for two weeks vacation to go hunting and never went back.

My secret hobby is writing, being busy with other aspects of the things called real life. I still try to get something down everyday, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. But at any rate, I’ve set a goal to have the first draft pieced together by the end of the year.

And since I said I would keep it short, I am going to stop there, since I expect it’s more than you wanted to know in the first place. *G*

So what about you? How did you end up in Vancouver?

Again, welcome!

Hugs

Esther

Hey Myxtress

Thanks for saying g'day and for giving a little insight into your life and writing (Life writing? Write living?). Seems like you've got some good material to draw from for your work :)

From what you described, writing is not your hobby, but rather "what you do'. Writers write - you do it every day, so consider yourself a true working writer and not a hobbyist. And the fact that you have a clear goal is further evidence of your title. You'd be amazed at the number of would-be's you put yourself ahead of just by finishing!

My Vancouver story? Ah, it's a long one; too long for this forum and my guy typing. I will say this, though: if you read the blurbs on my website for the novels 'MVP', 'The Umbilical Word' and 'Kindling', it will give you some idea :)

Cheers and talk again soon!

D

Thanks for the kind words, and it seems you have a lot to draw on from your own experiences as well. I sense your journey to Vancouver was complicated, both at its best and worst.

BTW, loved your reference to guy typing. Although, I admit I have a hard time picturing an author approaching the keyboard with the two-fingered hunt and stab technique that the guys in my house use...so I don't believe your typing is all that bad.

Hugs

Esther
