WE WENT INTO SASABOE AND THEN UP TO YOKSUKA AS ONE OF THE FIRST OCCUPATION MARINE UNITS .
OUR SQUADRONS DUTY WAS TO FLY RECON FLIGHTS TO MAKE SURE THE JAPANESE MOVED THEIR WAR MATERIALS ON THE PROPER ROADS TO THE DISPOSAL AREAS.
I WAS A FLIGHT-LINE SECTION CHIEF, INCHARGE OF 5 -- F4U CORSAIRS. I HAD A MAN ON EACH PLANE AND ONE IN THE HANGAR TO HELP ON THE 30 HOUR MAINTANANCE CHECKS.
( GOOD DUTY)
OUR GUYS GOT ALONG WELL WITH THE LOCALS. SOME US ARMY UNITS MADE PROBLEMS FOR THEMSELVES AND SUFFERED FOR IT.
