Subject: Re: 86th Commanche Patch

In one of the scrap books of my father, Fred Borsodi, I have what may be the original drawing of the 86th Fighter Squadron Commanche Patch. A reproduction of that drawing is in an article on my father in the AAHS Journal, (American Aviation Historical Society Journal, volume 41 number 2 Summer 1996) with some interesting accounts of the exploits of the 86th Squadron in North Africa. In the fall of 1943, when the men reached Italy, some of the men in that squadron, including my father who was the CO at that time, captured and repaired a German plane, a Ju 88, renamed the "Comanche". Later, in October, 1943 my father flew the "Comanche" back to the states. Fred was killed January 28th, 1945 testpiloting the YP80 Shooting Star, one of the first US jets, in England, a month after I was born. -Barbara Borsodi Gilbert
