Subject: AAF Air Transport Command patch question

My grandfathers A-2 flight jacket has an ATC patch on the chest but instead of a shiny silver background it has a shiny gold background can anyone explain this.All the patches are handmade leather from pieces so I know this was made pretty early.Also,I am looking for a moderatly priced reproduction of this patch if anyone can can help,I would really appreciate it.
