I recently obtained a very beat-up painted G-1 jacket which was purported to be USMC. On the back is "The Thunder Mug" and the remains of a wing. Little is left of whatever the wing was attached to (different paint) but I am guessing it was a chamber pot. There is also the remains of two Jap naval flags. The epaulets have painted Captain's bars which do not show the attachments between the bar ends. On the front are USN wings, painted DFC, Air Medal and Pacific Theater ribbons and the squadron patch. It is pretty rough but I can make out what appears to be Fritz the Cat above a Japanese naval flag. The background appears to be a yellow. No, it is NOT the famous VF3/VF31 patch!
I have been Googling all sorts of word combinations but have only found a "Thunder Mug" in a Catalina squadron with a different patch and everything involving Fritz the Cat seems to come back to VF3.
