Subject: Squadron/Unit insignia on P-40N 44-7203

Gentlemen: I represent the Stillwater Airport Memorial Museum of Stillwater, Oklahoma. For your information, our airfield was a storage and disposal site for 475 combat aircraft after World War Two. Recently, I received a photograph of one of these airplanes. A unit insignia can be clearly seen on the left side of the fuselage just before the star and bar. I'll try to describe the insignia as best as I can. I believe it is either a beaver or squirrel standing upright with its tail in the air. The animal is wearing a hairnet, fancy bow tie, and maybe even a vest or an apron. It appears to be carrying a tray full of hot beverages. Can anyone help me identify this unique insignia? Please be informed that P-40N 44-7203 served with several "Zone of Interior" Training and Base Units. The remains of the aircraft eventually was recovered by David Tallichet of the Military Aircraft Recovery Corporation. The photograph was taken at Chino, California on August 16, 1970. Any assistance you can give me and my organization will be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

Sincerely,

John L. Dienst, Curator (Emeritus)
Stillwater Airport Memorial Museum
