DEAR BRIAN, WE ONLY RECENTLY RETURNED FROM A TRIP THROUGH ITALY WHERE I FOLLOWED IN MY FATHER'S FOOTSTEPS THROUGH THE PO VALLEY AND APPENNINES CAMPAIGNS WHILE TRACING THE STEPS OF HIS UNIT - . WHAT HAPPENED ON THE 2nd DAY OF THIS VENTURE WAS ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE. WE JUST HAPPENED INTO A CHURCH TO SEE IF ANY OF THE OLDER TOWN RESIDENTS KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT THE WW2 BATTLES AND THE 337th, ENCOUNTERED A PRIEST WHO NOT ONLY WAS THERE AS A CHILD, BUT WHO SAYS (AND HAD ACTUAL DOCUMENTATION) THAT MY FATHER'S UNIT - 337th Co L - HAD SAVED THE PRIESTS LIFE DURING A HEAVY ENGAGEMENT, CARRYING HIM TO SAFETY FROM HIS HOME - WHICH WAS BEING SHELLED. A LOT OF TEARS AND EMOTION WAS GENERATED AT THAT MEETING - WHICH I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE ACTUALLY HAPPENED STRICTLY BY CHANCE !
