Take all the inappropriate clothing away. If she gets it from friends, keep her away from the friends. This CAN be handled.

However, I really agree that you should handle these things BEFORE they become things. Many times, this is rebellion rather than a true like of the activity in question. In a case like this, *maybe* the child wouldn't have this deep interest in inappropriate clothing if the mom had let the girl pick her own clothes at an early age. Currently, dd (age 6.5) helps pick out her clothes. She has a lot of say in what she wears, as long as it is age, season and activity appropriate. (I'm not saying the mom DIDN'T do this ... but this is one of the ways I hoep to prevent this type of stuff). I guide her to appropriate clothing, but she great say in the final decision.

Same with music. We are providing dd with a great musical background. Everything from Lyle Lovett to Pearl Jam to Bob Marley to Jimmy Buffet. We hope that, by growing up around not only appropriate, but quality, music, that she won't be going nutso after the Britney Spears' and Eminems and Snoop Dogs of the world when she starts choosing her own music.

Don't know if this totally addressed your post ... but its good for thought and maybe some debate.

Hollie
