Receiving blankets are key. We went through so many of them a week. I thought we had enough but ended up going out to buy more. Seems like the little guys spit up about 300 times a day. Agree that the cloth diapers are the BEST for burp cloths.
Strollers......we received a jogging stroller as a gift but you're not supposed to jog w/baby in it until he/she can hold head up so may as well wait on that one. The regular kind that the infant carrier can snap into are invaluable. Nothing like being able to get the baby in and out of the car to run errands without waking them up.
Diaper bag....my sister has this HUGE one from Land's End that looks like luggage! LOL!! I totally HATE it. But, that's just me. We got the one from them that is a backpack. Seems sometimes that you need 3 extra hands and the backpack at least will stay on your back to leave your hands free. And Frenchie is right, you'll get tired of it so we went with just a plain Jane one. The baby cutesie ones are o.k. but do you still want to be carrying it when baby is 2?
Speaking of extra hands, I would recommend a snuggly or front carrier as a must have as well. Sometimes the little darlings just simply will not be put down. I swear they're born with an altimeter that sets off strong alarms as their body approaches any sort of horizontal surface. I wouldn't recommend the one we got. I think it's a Graco and may be Snuggli brand. It took 2 people to get Ethan in & out and sometimes felt like we were stuffing sausage or something. I think Baby Bjorn makes some that are easier.
