The last book should definately have the evolved face-Dancers involved. Will they be the enemy, or part of the remnants of humanity that defeats the EVOLVED version of the machines(cyborg/precient/Omnius intelligence?)
One thing that seems clear to me is that the human race is still in for a complete butt- whipping. I think that the remnants of the empire are likely to be destroyed.
It would be interesting to have Duncan on Sheeanna discover a message again by lord Leto, oin whatever planet that they've finally settled that ship on, that gives them the information that will be the crucible for saving the remnants of humanity. Leto - who is "billions upon billions" in that one body- was considered a true God among men by Moneo- and that's something to consider.
Frank has let the butlerian Jihad lay underneath every storyline during the Dune series. Those same quotes I brought up about Norma Cenva could also be brought to mean that Leto thought the true danger to mankind was "mechanical thinking" rather than thinking machines.
I gotta tell you all, this last re-reading of the series has become far more enjoyable, having people to discuss it with.
I'm reading the part of God Emperor when Duncan and Hwi decide to come together...Can you imagine the balls it would take to turn on Leto in that situation?
I'm starting to think that Leto repeatedly brought back the Duncans because his actions are predictable, and he is part of Leto's Golden Path, in Leto's visions of it. Leto sees him as a major part of helping the change come in the empire as he inherits the power of the empire.Moreso than his genes adding to the Attreides, Duncan Ideals mated with Sionna's rebelious nature is what helps build the scattering...
