I just finished Chapterhouse again this morning. My head is spinning! My new theory is that I think Sheeana may become a new tyrant. She was already being somewhat deified by the Missionaria and by her amazing abilities. She takes sandworms with her out of the reach of the new BGs. She doesn't approve of the new regime or the direction they are going. She contemplates putting on the sandworm skin, and never really rejects the idea. She has the Tleilaxu master, the jewish tribe include the first wild reverend mother in eons and two gholas, Idaho and Teg, both of whom have EXTRAORDINARY abilities. They pretty much leave Murbella in the dust. I think the real pattern is Bene Gesserit to Muad'Dib to Tyrant to Honored Matres to BG/HM to Sheeanna...see the pattern? Each creates the other...Sheeana will become a new tyrant, form a new type of warrior class (as the HMs came from fish speakers) and perhaps join forces with the BG/HMs to ultimately defeat the enemy with many faces! Each step creates a new formidable power fighting for humanity. If this is the case I can see why they are saying they may need to make it two books to complete the series.
There is a lot going on in this last novel! The HMs are running from "the enemy of many faces," probably liberated face dancers. This enemy has a biological weapon that makes them into vegetables. It is BG control over internal chemistry that HMs seek to counter this weapon. We meet futars which are human/cat hybrids that apparently need "handlers" (probably Tleilaxu from the scattering)to execute a kill command but are bred to kill HMs, however, most of the futars we meet are kept by the HMs. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Perhaps Tleilaxu fought HMs, created futars but were defeated anyway and that's why HMs keep the futars? If not, why do we never meet these handlers? And if the futars are the enemy of the HMs and were negotiating with BGs, which way will they go now?
I just don't know if this enemy is just a machine. I think Frank had a lot more up his sleeve.
Not to mention the whole Daniel and Marty mystery. Why did they think Idaho saw them but not the net? What is the net? How did Idaho escape it? What kind of control do they exercise? Marty says something about being upset because she had a nice planet picked out for them, a good test of their abilities.(!) She accuses Daniel of letting them go. What is the purpose of testing their abilities?
Idaho constantly thinks about "a piece that cannot be moved" and "testing to the limits" and other pieces of a "mosaic" that he feels close to seeing the big picture in. What is the piece that cannot be moved? And finally, what is up with the "Gholas. He can have them." quote? What does he mean? More questions all the time...just bring on Dune 7 please!!!!
