Subject: On the BG and spice...

The first 3 daughters of Shaddam IV (Irulan, Wisencia, etc) were less than 4 years apart in age. Their mother, Anirul, was a Bene Gesserit of important rank, so it's likely all her daughters had some BG training. Also, being daughter's of the Emperor, they would all have access to spice, so I don't think you can explain the discrepancy in age that way.
Anyways, in regard to age, they have been WAY off in BOTH series with MANY of the main characters. Leto II and Ghanima were supposed to be like 10 or something in CoD and Paul is supposed to be around 14 in Dune. Liet should be many years younger than Stilgar and Jessica should be younger than Leto, Gurney and Duncan (who should all be WAY older than Paul). Age doesn't appear to matter much to the casting directors.
William Hurt blew as Leto. He was stuffy with a huge stick up his bum, when Leto was supposed to be quite charismatic (and Greek, as someone else pointed out).
Susan Sarandon, well, I could care less about her political views. As an actress, I couldn't stand her in Bull Durnham, I couldn't stand her in Thelma and Louis and I sure as heck couldn't stand her in CoD. I honestly don't see what people see in her. Her acting is crap in my opinion. It's one-dimensional. She's the same character in every single movie. Maybe that was their intention, because, with the exception of Irulan, they make all the Corrinos look like a bunch jackasses. I'd of preferred someone good at playing "wicked" for the part. Someone like Lena Olin would have been perfect for the role. Regal, intelligent, and sinister. EXACTLY what you'd expect of an emperor's daughter. Not the bumbling baffoon they chose to portray in the series.
