Subject: Being an informed voter...

That's an interesting idea. Unfortunately, it requires extensive research into countless issues to come up with a personal stance. After that, it would involve searching through stacks of Congressional records to see how each of your Congressmen voted on each of the issues. Keep in mind Congressional records are not written at the 6th grade reading level, so it's Greek to your average American. After that, you'd have to actually contact your representative and question his motives on certain votes you didn't agree with. "Oh, you voted that way in exchange for Senator So-and-So's vote on the Michigan Road Repair Fund. Ok, now I understand." Expecting a response, in the first place, would be pretty unrealistic since he likely represents a couple million people. What's a person to do? Take CNN's word for it? I'll pass.

Unfortunately, we've had it so good for so long we've become complacent. The Spirit of '76 is long dead. We can't be bothered marching to protest something like evironmental responsibility when we're busy skydiving and zipping around on our jet-skis while half the world starves. Like the other person, I've resigned myself to the fact I'm not the next Martin Luther King, Jr. Until enough people get tired of the way things are, some of us will just have to sit around and hope everyone else wakes from their stupor. Sheep mentality is a frustrating thing. Oh, well. Maybe our grandchildren will have a little more sense than we do.
