The Bene Gesserit are in power; however, only tenuously so. There is an invasion of sorts. I won't go much further in describing it to you, but YOU NEED TO READ THEM. Heretics & Chapterhouse have some of Dune Saga's most memorable characters. I'm not just tootin' your wistle here. Reverend Mother Lucilla's debate with the leader of the invading force (which I won't spoil for you) is one of (in my oppinion) the greatest literary works I've ever read (and I've read a LOT). It was so logical and moving that I have re-read that very part of the book almost weekly since I first read Chapterhouse Dune, over four years ago!

Also the leaders of the Bene Gesserit (aka- "Mother Superior") in Heretics and Chapterhouse are phenominal characters and will endear the Order to you like no other characters in the preceding novels! You really will be missing out on a majority of Frank Herbert's philosophy and ideas if you don't read the last two books!!!
