scytale was a tleilaxu, a master i think. the reason the tleilaxu wanted to restore the memories of the original idaho ghola was to see if it was possible to give themselves a kind of immortality.it worked, and scytale has been reborn in ghola form so many times that he has memories going back to the times of paul atreides. in chapterhouse scytale has a nullentropy tube containing cells taken from many of the characters in the early books, as well as some of the face dancers and god knows what. if he has access to an axlotl tank he can theoretically grow these people back as gholas and restore their memories.
