I'm not very good at writing a review but shit we need something, this bootsie stuff is seriously interupting the flow of my workday entertainment.
How about that Springfield show, huh? It got kind of lost in the shuffle with the Ledges and all, but it was a great little show. I always enjoy the original setlists, in fact I hope for those most of the time.
I like the "just-the-song-you-didn't-know-you-needed-to-hear" thing from Dave...so I gonna steal it(sorry Dave). H.C. Sunshine always fits into that catagory for me, and BAM right there it is to open the show. The choppy jam kind of reminds me of taking a hike at the Glen not too far from the venue itself. Every hippie within 100 miles has lost their mind in those woods at one point or another. I then mosey down in front of the stage for Stranger and Dire Wolf and run into a friend. Mike from Chicago, I'm sure there can only be one Mike from Chicago, right? Met him at the Ledges 5 years ago and been running into him ever since, it's gonna be a damn fine weekend we agree. Desolation Row is next and I always picture pieces of fence flying around when I hear that song, if you were at Deer Creek ten years ago you know why.
Spent the rest of the set running around and shootin' the shit but do remember a smokin' Stagger Lee and Next Time You See Me with Rob Barraco singing...way SWEET!!! Any chance of him staying permanatly? Probably not but man its fun to imagine. The guy has got AMAZING energy, it's easy to see why the Dead like him so much.
The second set, oh what a set it was indeed! Box of Rain and the entire WRS->Let It Grow to follow. "Thank you sir may I have another?" YES...you may. Touch> St Stphen> Drums> NFA> Space> NFA> St Stephen> Morning Dew> Lovelight. The Dew kicked much, much ass! Eat your heart out Bootsie, I know, I know, don't add fuel to the fire but, damn it I just couldn't help it. A set like that, with Lisa I might add, is most definatly what keeps this fan coming back for more! Throw in a Brokedown and On The Road Again and you got yourself one hellava fun night. Thank you Springfield, see you next year, oh wait...I live here.
Hey, you know what? One more killer venue here in Ohio and we might be able to give those Colorado boys a run for their money! What do you say DSO? If it weren't for the god forsaken humidity.
Peace(you too Bootsie),
JayB
