幾乎忘記了，世界上有「停電」這回事。
不是那些事先知會，因維修保養電力系統的暫停供電；而是突如其來，殺大家一個措手不及的停電。
記憶中，對上一次在香港遭遇停電，已是八十年代的事了。當時家住土瓜灣某私人屋邨，不知怎地，該邨電力系統經常不勝負荷，每到盛夏夜各家各戶冷氣大開之際，會冷不防「轟𠾐」一聲，全邨停電。
邨民早就習以為常，處變不驚，繼續瞓覺，甚至瞓到完全不覺停了電；只有我這種挑燈夜讀的勤學生，方最受影響。通常，搶修約半小時便會恢復供電；但，又通常，復電後不出一刻鐘，會「轟𠾐」一聲再停過，如是者一夜停個三、四次，實屬等閒。
自遷離該區後，近年在新住處完全沒有試過停電，幾乎已忘記了停電的滋味。直到上周四深夜四時部A突然收到紐約家人電話，說該市大停電，以為又是恐怖襲擊，問我這邊有甚麼消息。我大驚，上CNN網、開有線CNBC台，方知是空前的跨國大停電；雖不似是恐怖襲擊，但仍對家人的處境憂心不已。
當晚澈夜不眠，想起二十年前的慣性停電，居然有點懷念，至少那時候一家人還住在一起。如今，美洲停電，亞洲掛念，情何以堪！
